I am doing some marketing research and was curious if there are any notable missed putts, maybe from majors, where the golfer describes the reason for missing the putt as leaving the putter face open or closed. Does anyone recall any missed putts that are described like that? Pushed it, left the face open, face angle off anything like that?

Off the top of my head, I'd say the majority of them.  I don't know that a lot of them have just admitted to absolutely blowing the read, which is really the only other option.

Just out of curiosity, what's driving the question?

It's marketing research or a putter. We are looking for important putts that were left just outside the hole where the players says he pushed it or pulled it. The idea is to compare their missed putt to what would happen with the same putt using a different club.

Wouldn't that be kind of a subjective topic? Given the opportunity to go back in time and address that same putt, who's to say the player would push/pull that same putt with the same club? A number of things could have impacted the putt, such as: nerves, yips, confidence level, injury/pain, a blatant misread, bad strike, etc.

I can't say "Tiger pushed his 3W at the Palmer on the second hole. But, h ere's what would have happened had he used the new TM SLDR instead! [insert CGI ball flight splitting the fairway + dramatic cut-scene to a Tiger fist pump]".

Oh I agree, I am not saying it would have changed the outcome, but in marketing it's all about perception and selling an idea. You can't say he would have made it with a different club but you can make the consumer ask the question. think about the Axe body spray commercials. They imply that the dude gets all the girls when he puts the spray on, but they never say "risk spray will make you get girls". i envision an add campaign like this.....footage of player X missing a putt. A famous putt that everyone would know. Maybe have him talking at the press conference afterwards saying he pushed it or left it out over the hole. After he misses the putt, he looks down at he club and realizes he is using a different putter........then he wakes up from a dream sequence and grabs his bag to check and then finds comfort in our putter being the one in his bag. I don't want to claim anyone would or would not have made a certain putt, but i would love to make the consumer ask the question if it could have been different.

If someone were in a position to win, it would mean they putted awfully well to get in that position.  The first question I would "ask", is would I have missed more of the putts that I otherwise made with a different putter? ;-)

unfortunately, you would be unlikely to get a "famous" choker to agree to let his image be used that way. UNLESS it's for an equipment company he is signed up with. And the first 'choke' putt that I think of is Scott Hoch missing at Augusta giving the Masters to Faldo.

As the vast majority of your posts here seem to be about promoting or getting information about your putter, which is a commercial thing (you're gonna sell it in the end), I'm going to have to ask you to stop. This forum does not exist so that its members may be exploited or used for free by for those looking to promote or gain information on their own promotional and/or commercial concepts.

The putter they're using is not going to affect this. I completely disagree with the premise of this thread. No putter is going to fix those things.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
