Liking the newer look Tour Chrome better than the older version. Having said that, the Black Oxide finish looks pretty cool too. The Gold Nickel probably is my least favourite, but if I got one for free I'd rock it :-D

Trying out the 60 L grind tomorrow

I picked up a SM5 60* Tour Chrome with K grind.  Haven't had a chance to use it, but given how saturated the ground is, should need it at least until June here on Long Island.

I ordered the 58.12 k grind last weekend and hoping it is at the club this week. I went with chrome instead of black so no evidence is showing.

I was torn between the 58 and 60.  The 60 fits my gaps better but it's less useful out of the sand unless there's little green to work with.

I had been playing with a 56 degree niblick and my low bounce 58. With the loft of my Callaway gap wedge and the improvement in my game, it is time to unretire my 54 degree and use the 58 more as my SW.

I'm having a SM4 56* bent 1* strong so I can maintain 5* gap between my wedges.  I guess we'll see how it works out.

I got 2 of the black today in the mail. Custom set up. 56 bent to 55, and a 60. Can't wait to try them...

I wonder how much "better/improved" the SM5 is vs the SM4..? I have the SM4 in 54 and 60, and I need to replace my 54.

Well, they rave about a lot of things. At present, I can get new SM4's for 99.00, the SM5's are 130.00. I guess what I'm asking is there a 30.00 dollar difference in the SM5's.?

Heck, I'll proly wind up gettin the SM5 anyways...lol

I don't think the SM4's were offered in the K grind as an off the shelf product, I think they could only be ordered from Vokey Design and started at $160.

I know that they made some sight changes on the S and M grinds but probably not anything significant.  I went with the K grind because it's a full sole with high bounce so I'm hoping they will work better in the spring and early summer since the ground is so saturated.

I just got the SM4!  I am always at least one version behind.  I don't like the bounce on the SM5 58.11.  They went from a 58.12 with the M or L grind, to an 11 with the K grind.  The K grind reduces options with regards to opening the club face and varying effective bounce.  The 58.12 grind was fine in fluffy sand when I went to Florida and it works great from firm lies for pitching.

K grind is a good one.

The updated tour satin chrome is really nice, more "player" looking than previous satin finishes. Same finish tour guys have had for years.

    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
