Are Golf Simulators biased for Righties? (AKA, Do longer readings on launch monitors make more sales?)

Not that it matters to me at this point, but I found in the past that every time I would go get monitored all my shots go shorter than in real course conditions measured with a Galaxy IIIS cell phone GPS and Bushnell laser.

The optical systems are the ones that give me the worst readings, and the radar units where I need to align things within a few centimeters are the worst ones.

The swing speed monitors read the opposite for me. All the readings are really high.

I was wondering if any other lefties have had anything similar happen to them?

At this point, it's moot for me because I just get a DG S300 shaft or KBS Tour stiff in my irons, and a ridiculous X100/X200 shaft in my woods and Xstiff KBS hybrid Tour steel shafts. I just don't care if I am losing distance by potentially being so grossly misfitted, because the alternative is to have sky hooked balls when I used the results from numerous fittings.

I would like to note that I have never been monitored with a Flightscope or Trakman.

Any opinion or advice is welcome.

I've gotten some weird numbers, but I wasn't sure if that's just because I'm hitting new clubs that I'm not familiar with or aren't fit for me.  I couldn't get good numbers with a Cobra Amp Cell on a simulator but out on the range I hit it really well so I'm not sure if it's me or the Trakman.

I am assuming that you were fitted with a Trakman?

How much shorter were you hitting with the simulator versus the live course readings?

It was actually a Foresight system and the carry distances were about 20 yards different and overall about 30 yards shorter.  The system was reporting a slow swing speed too on a large number of swings.

This is the same optical system I used to measure my swing speed.

I assume that the 20 yards shorter is with a driver, which would probably translate to something like 10% to 15%?

That would correspond roughly with what I have seen as well.

I have been working in the simulator industry and currently with bogolf. I agree that most of the systems are developed and tested for right handers and then tweaked a bit to work for the lefties. I am not in any way praising our system but it does perform in the same way for lefties as it does for righties as there are no infrared sensors and instead the motion is being captured using high speed cameras.

Yes it was with a driver.  My on course carry is typically 210 - 220 and the Foresight system had me around 190 - 200 and about 5 - 10 yards less rollout.  I'm 95% certain my on course carry distances are accurate because I use both GPS and laser.

The only other thing I could think it could be is tee height, I usually tee my ball a little lower than the tees on the simulator.  If I was hitting a higher angle of attack I might have lost carry and roll out due to ballooning.

One of my playing partners is a lefty and he has the same issue we're seeing so maybe it is the Foresight system.

Interesting system.
