This weather makes me want to vomit! Most courses in my region (Niagara, Ontario) were set to open next week and then we got dumped on again last night. The Weather Network called for a trace of snow followed by immediate mild temperatures but that's not the case. About 5 to 10cm and it's below zero again. This winter will not loosen it's grip and I've had enough. All I want to do is hit some balls outside!!

I'm very grateful that we have an indoor range here but it's time to hit some outdoor ranges and play a round. This winter has been especially brutal.

Amen, brother.  What's ironic is that the weather could just as easily be sunny and 65 in our area.  Why do we always seem to get the s⁢ end of the stick?

Woke up Wed morning to 6" of fresh powder in NE Ohio.  Great if your a skier!  And yesterday (Sat) another 5" of the wet slushy stuff that froze to ice overnight.

Will it EVER END?!!!  Sheesh!

We just got a huge dump of snow overnight. Wet, heavy and ugly. :censored:

Wind and moe wind then wind on top of wind. Walked off the course due to wind. Would rather be snowed in than fooled by wind.

I hear that. Chicago area here. Hoping that the courses will be open on Tuesday. But on a positive note for me, I'm moving to San Antonio in 3 weeks, so no more snow for me. I feel for all you guys waiting for this winter to be over though. I'm going stir crazy here.

Ditto.

That's what Niagara looked like 2 days ago but it is all but gone now. The temperature is at a balmy 9 degrees Celsius and it's supposed to be 15 degrees tomorrow. All for nothing though because it's supposed to drop back down to 3 degrees and we're getting more snow. Wet snow but wet snow is still snow dammit!!!!!!!

There are mountains in NE Ohio?  Or are we talking cross country?

No mountains.  We have a couple of large HILLS where kids ski.  Guess I could have skied down the driveway Sunday morning to get the paper from the box after the 5" of slush turned to ice.  Point is, it easily could be sunny and 65 and we could be out golfing or at least hitting balls.  Since December we've seen avg daily temperatures 15-30 degrees BELOW normal.  Like everyone else in the east and midwest, just venting along with the rest.

C'mon WARM WEATHER!!!

Haha.  This is why I moved to southern California when I was 18.  I grew up near Philly.  Winter golf is 65 and sunny.  Summer golf, stay near the coast and it's 80 and sunny.  And you can drive 4 hours and be skiing at Mammoth...  Yes, minor gloating

I know huh, I HATE THE WIND!!! All winter long wind wind wind wind. Not even really enough snow, just wind.

I played Saturday morning, and it was calm until our last few holes.

    • I’ve recently started KBs too and really enjoy it. I have one day of armour building complex and one day of a mobility routine. Adding in a speed training day too.    which routines do you do @Elmer
    • Again, I’m not an expert so take it with a grain of salt My question is whether laying back even further becomes too conservative and that strategy is suboptimal as a result? Essentially what’s the cost of guaranteed longer second shot vs the x% risk for hitting the bunker? I think the optimal way to answer the question is looking at strokes gained, in consideration of the hazards and penalties, and picking the strategy that maximizes SG off the tee. I’ve seen some apps that do this but I’m not sure how accurate they are.   And again, asking all this so I can learn what I should be doing in these situations rather than questioning your approach Bill. I would give an example of the course I’m joining this year where I plan to aim at the bunker, but I don’t want to take over your swing thread any further!
    • What @DeadMan said. From the satellite it looks like there's tall grass to the right, long of the fairway post-dog-leg. But left it just looks like regular rough all the way to the neighboring tee boxes. If that's true I'm aiming left edge of the green and bombs away every time, hoping for a 30-70 yard up and down opportunity.
    • What's the case against blasting a driver at the green? I'm guessing it puts the penalty area/fescue too much into play, but if that's just standard rough around the green, there would be a good case for it. If it's not driver, then I agree with your approach. The one thing I would add is to shade your aim towards the bunkers vs. center of the fairway. Hitting out of a bunker is (marginally) better than a penalty drop.
    • Yes, if you are gonna layup, then layup. No need to nickle and dime a few extra yards and bring bunker back into play.
