Hey guys! I have been playing for about 3 1/2 months. When I started shot a 147 I have improved A LOT! Last 5 times ive golfed I have shot a 100, 99, 97, 92, and 87.. but today I had a terrible day! Shot a 116! How often do you guys get these? Any tips on bouncing back? Thx.. Also got a new cleveland 60 degree wedge and I had a hard time adjusting to it. Chunking a lot of the shots.

The longer you play the more narrow the gap between the good rounds and the bad rounds will get. Pretty normal for somebody playing a few months to have a big gap between the two.

Keep working on your swing and ball striking.

I would leave the 60 in the bag unless it's necessary...Or better yet leave it at home so you won't be tempted to use it.

But that's just my opinion.

I agree with @MS256 .  The more you play, the more consistent you get.

As for the 60, I play with a 58.  60 degree can be tough to handle if you are just starting out.  Check out this thread and practice this.

You have to be disciplined with a 60* As I have learnt, you want to hit them flops from everywhere but you should restrict to only when nothing else will do, if your breaking 100 occasionally after 3 months your doing just fine!!! Just remember 1 safety shot is better than to 2 bad shots!

I am a 4 and I still leave my 60 at home. I replaced it with a 18 degree hybrid which helped my with my gap between my 3 iron and 3 wood. I will only bring out my 60 when I know the green side bunkers have very firm or shallow sand. My 60 has less bounce than my 56, and let's me get under the ball. For a beginner, I would just practice with 2 clubs around the greens: 54-56 degree and a 9 iron. Keep it simple without trying to be too cute. For shots around 20-40 yards, I would just choke down on a PW. The more you practice these shots, the confidence comes next. I still get nervous looking down at my 60 from 20-40 yards out. Finally, it comes down to course management, if you struggle at a certain distance, don't leave yourself with that distance.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
