Help me out, guys and girls.

It seems that whenever I start to think about my swing during the takeaway (got to get the angle, wrists, swing speed, etc), that swing will b a miss hit.

But if I were to do all the thinking before the swing, and then just do it. It will actually be a good one.

But it's so hard to keep my mind blank. I do so much thinking. Any trick u guys do to keep a clear mind?

The best advice I have heard is usually only keep one or two swing thoughts at the most.. 

 

1 is probably much better.. you can always just think to your self "Finish High" "Finish High" "Finish High" and then just swing.. (can't remember where I read that one)

 

Or any other thought that works for you, just try a couple out and see where you get your best results..

 

Remember... Just one swing thought!!!!

I was like "ok...take away...keep triangle..ok...keep wrist angle...ok...coil up..ok..." lol

Be the ball Danny!  Think about target and one swing though at most.  Try working on visualizing your shot and focus on that.  I agree that the more I think about mechanics, the worse the shot will be.

Don't use swing thoughts. Focus on your target and what you want your ball to do. Take a practice swing and feel the shot. Keep loose, and swing.

The range is for thinking. On the course- there is no think, only do.

I just started this love hate relationship with golf. So I've only been hitting the range.

2 things . .a strategy and a trick.  My strategy is to *visualize* (not think about) my takeaway.  I'm sure different things work for different people but that's what works for me.  No thoughts like "keep wrist flat" or whatever.  The only other thing I will think about, and again it's more of a visualization thing, is a slow, smooth tempo. 

 

Ok - but that never works and usually my mind is cluttered with 20 different thoughts so here's a trick you can use.  I do everything as normal until I address the ball.  As soon as I get over it, I tap the clubhead on the ground 3 times and swing.  1, 2, 3, swing.  Works every time (sometimes).

I struggle with this.  When I try to go no thoughts I tend to hit terrible shots (this tells you how good my ingrained swing is!).  So I tend to struggle with not thinking obsessively about way too much mechanics on the course, and that leads to bad shots too.  I do best (currently) trying to clear the array of mechanical thoughts by actively concentrating on one thought, or sometimes one thought on the back swing, one thought for the down swing (though I've been recommended against that!).

I like to look behind the ball and think about what my ball may or may not do based on how I'm swinging. Then picture what my ball may do. Go up to my ball take a 3/4 light practice swing to ensure it's the swing I want. I base that on if it glides across the grass smoothly and if I just "feel" it. Then I get up to the ball, look down the line and take my swing.

 

If I think any bad thoughts or about what might happen on this particular shot, I TRY, I say try because it doesn't always happen and step away. If you hit it, I refer to those as, "anyway shots" because you knew you should have backed off but you hit it "anyway". Minimize your anyway shots and minimize your screw ups! Or at least try, haha.

Over analysing your swing is a very common problem and causes the swing to feel tense because  the concious brain was not designed to move the muscles in the body and it can only effectively do one thing at a time, because of this too many swing thoughts can lead to tension and a lack of flow in the golf swing.  This video link below is titled, "How to remove the tension from your swing", but it is also a great way of focussing your conscious brain onto something non technical.  Follow the steps and either focus your mind on your breathing or the humming, either of these two things will soon get rid of the swing thoughts and restore the natural flow to your swing

I like to play on the course with no thought other than seeing the shot I want to hit.

I trust that the practice at home and on the range will slowly creep into my game that I take to the course as my song changes become more and more permanent.

I will however make very deliberate practice swings on the course much like the slow swings I make during practice to really feel what I'm currently working on. But one I set up to the ball I just swing

I dont take practice swings on the course unless I'm not hitting a full shot.  I know how to hit the ball, and I know how far I hit my clubs.  I pick a club and a shot, visualize it in my mind, and then pick a direction to hit the ball (on the ground right in front of the ball).  after I make those decisions, I never look at the target again.  After I set myself up, I am no longer worried about where the ball is going to go because I know that the ball will go where I want it to if I hit it correctly.  When I address the ball I take 2 deep breaths, tell myself to keep my head down, rotate my hips, and let the club do the work.  Then I swing.  This whole process usually takes less than 15 seconds.  I do the same thing on the driving range.  I get comments all the time on how fast I play and how good I am with my full shots.  Now if only I had the time and patience to work on my short game lol
