Driver Spin rate

Got some Trackman time today.  Looking pretty good.

except - my spin on my driver is consistently 5000-5100

(path and angle good, AoA from 3-6 degrees or so, head speed ~105, clean contact results in 250-290 at any particular time)

I can get spin rate that down if lay back and hit a higher angle of attack (can get 3800 with +7 AoA) - seems to not cost a lot of distance but that's a swing that doesn't feel like it's in my 'comfort' zone.

what can I do to reduce driver spin rate?

(or, what's a good number to set for a goal?)

I should have taken a couple screen shots - all I have is a decent 6i that I hit to finish the session.  I like the stats, maybe I'm a little shallow AoA, but it's the shot I'd like to get more often.  This is maybe a forth of my shots if I really focus, would like it over half.

What's your launch angle with the driver? Dynamic loft?

Spin rate way too high, I agree.

Seems very odd that you were getting those numbers with a positive angle of attack, heck even with a negative AoA that's a lot of spin. Something is off here.

Indeed. What was the contact location? What shaft and head do you have?

My money the machine is messed up.

Try to get spin loft closer to around 10, contact high on the face, and make sure you're doing keys 2 and 3 properly. Other than that, you can fine tune a bit with equipment and setup.

I don't think 5k spin is accurate with 105SS and anything close to that AoA. My money is that you need to take 2000rpm off from that monitor and everything sounds reasonable from there. Could it be calibrated for an iron or something? Even if you're hitting a massive slice I don't think 5k total spin is anything close to a normal shot. That's a mid iron shot from a good player if anything.

Was it measured indoors? Sometimes Trackman can get double spin rates indoors, if care is not taken.

I think the machine was goofed somehow. I don't know how you'd get the carry yardages you were getting with 105/5000.

I agree, Flightscope has it around 235 yards carry with 5000 rpm and 105 club head speed (I just assumed 150 mph ball speed, that's probably a bit too much if he's getting 5000 rpm.)

you know what?  I asked one of the pros about that too last week.  He said trust all the data but spin, something was off (or terribly worn) and he didn't trust spin on the machine.  Said they were getting more stickers, the balls didn't have the little 'silver dots' I'm used to seeing - are those for spin measurements (I'm not a regular TM user I like it when i can).....  I read that comment as the spin was a little off, not a LOT off.  I must have inferred the wrong thing.

AoA is about +5 typically  (club is a 10.5 degree face - don't know the launch angle)

head is a Nike VRpro ii Limited (not adjustable) - shaft is a stiff Mitsubishi Diamana - I really like these a LOT over the ProjX shafts normally found on that gen of Nikes

contact....I'm only looking at the stats when contact is clean.  fairly centered on the face or just above center based on marks anyway  (my normal miss is the top of face - haven't done that for quite awhile lately though)

measured indoors

the Trackman shapes and distances are matching what I'm seeing on the course - both woods, hybrids and irons....Really have work hard to keep the path inside out.....

thanks guys - I thought that I was showing too much carry for the spin I was reading

so is 2000-3000 a good number?  Once the machines (or balls) are reset, I'll be able to get a true assessment of spin I guess.

I plan to get at least an hour of TM a month over the season - it's part of my membership and I like it a lot

If it's indoors and they didn't have the dots, then definitely don't trust the spin numbers. Right.
