Some of them are surprisingly pretty, even if you've seen the insides of golf balls before…

Amazing to see the differences that lie beneath the covers of modern balls. I used to love hacksawing wound golf balls in my youth. Cut about halfway, and the ball would "come alive", as the rubber windings under tension would crawl out and emerge. All that wound energy slowly emerging from beneath the cover. It could look pretty frightening at times.,..

A few look unbalanced or off center, I wonder what each ball is/was. I might have to do some ball chopping. Thanks for sharing the link.

Maybe I didn't see it, but it would be cool if they said what brand each ball was

Do you think the colour of the polymers used inside the ball are coloured for any particular reason? They are pretty but why bother colouring them?

I am not sure but I think it is so when they mix the resin they know what ones go into what balls. As I have cut open a few balls from the same brand but they were different series of balls from the same brand and they were different colors.

Seems like a valid theory. I think it's so the people working in the ball factory have something pretty to look at :-P

That is part of it.  Also, during inspections any variation in color will uncover a molding issue.

  • 3 years later...

Here is a few more pics.

A word of caution...it can be very dangerous to cut a golf ball in half without the proper tools.  I don't recommend using power tools of any kind, and always wear eye protection...

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
