What Changes Need to be Made to Work the Ball?

I naturally hit a slight push draw.  If I need to hit a shot with a bigger draw or even a fade, what's the best way of accomplishing that?

What I do now is simply change my club face alignment before I take my grip.  Then, when I swing, I take my normal grip (as if the club face hadn't been manipulated) and don't change anything.  I just let the club face angle take care of things.  I also change my aim, of course.  What I've found is the most important thing to do is not think about the club face adjustment I've made.  If I think about the fact that I've opened the club face for a fade, I'm likely to try really hard to close it in fear that I'll slice the ball.

I've heard so many professionals talk about changing your grip, ball position, swing path, etc, to explain how to properly work the ball.

Is it necessary to change all those things about your swing to try to work the ball, or is what I do an ok method?

I think you do it the right way. At least that is the way I would if I was trying to work the ball. Adjustment of face angle and alignment.

Bigger draw, just move the ball a little further back and aim the body more right. Aim the face where want it to start. For a fade, body left, ball neutral, slightly forward, face where you want it to start.

I wouldn't change your grip, it's not needed.

While I agree that in order to hit a big hook it makes it easier if the face is closed (left) to your body lines, you don't want to have the face aiming at the trees (just to clarify), you still need to aim it where you want the ball to start. Ball starts where the face is pointed at impact and curves away from the path.

The face isn't what makes it hook, I can have the face looking like the pic below and cut it.

One of the best tips I got on changing the amount of right to left was to simply move the ball slightly further back and get a bit more weight forward on my left side. From there I just open or close the face as needed and really swing from the inside. Didn't have to try to roll my wrists with that technique and was a lot more consistent.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
