I end up using my SW (specs below) for most of my regular greenside bunker shots. At times when I don't have much green to work with, I use my 60-degree LW. Given the difference in bounce between both clubs, is there anything I should be changing when I hit the shot with the LW? I.e. stance, how far behind to hit, etc?

Thanks!

Good question. I'm curious to know the answer as well. I actually stopped using my 60 degree in the sand. I thought the increased loft would help me but actually the lack of bounce made it more difficult for me to hit a good bunker shot. It seemed like the club would really dig into the sand more than desired.

I have a 55 degree SW with 12 degrees of bounce and it is much easier for me to deal with a greenside bunker with that club.

Here are a few things to point out.

#1 - You may want to consider still using the 56 but just openning the face more. The important thing is the amount of sand you put between the ball and the clubface. If you use the 60 degree wedge, it's designed to dig more and that will only cause problems.

#2 - For ANY shot out of the greenside bunker I believe it's preferable (until your very comfortable) to address the spot where you want the club to enter the sand and NOT the ball. Again, don't address the ball, address the spot in the sand you want the clubface to enter the sand.

#3 - When picking the spot in the sand you want to hit use the following concept:

Less Bounce = Closer to the ball
More Bounce = Further from the ball

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

Great question. I vary my clubs from the sand. Sometimes I'll hit a 56, sometimes a 60, depending on how I feel. Recently I accidentally grabbed my 52 for a short sand shot and stiffed it.

I don't really know how I hit sand shots. I just decide on trajectory, where I want it land and then try to do that. My sand save % is a little over 50% year to date.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
