As I mentioned in previous thread, Monday my brother and I are going to Fla for golf. He is taking a 2 day group class. I am doing 1 day, then golf the next. Class is 3 morning hours on the range, then 9 holes with the instructor after lunch. How much, if called for, should I tip him for my one day, and how much for my brother for both days?  I pay, with club rentals, $200 and him $400+.

If you are paying for this trip and lesson, don't tip him. I don't tip my instructors. If I had a caddy, I would tip the caddy, but not the instructor.

When do you stop tipping people? Who do you decide to tip, and who not?

American baffles me on the tipping front, I understand tipping serving staff who make below minimum wage, but if I'm doing something like this there's no way I am ever even thinking about a tip.

You tip for service mostly in restaurants and hotels (for the cleaning staff), barbers and cab service.  You don't tip professionals, i.e. instructors, etc, unless it is exceptional service.  Tipping at these other levels is more of a "thank you so much for your incredible service" statement.  It is more rare.

Americans tip as a thank you for good service. That is in our culture.
