Help! Golfing With Tourettes

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
Hello, I am 16 years old and roughy a 12 Handicap...
Anyways, I usually don't have an issue but lately my tics from my disorder of Tourette syndrome have been messing up my pre shot routine. Any idea on how I can deal with this? Anybody else have tourettes?

This has been throwing me off lately

@mchichioco ,

I don't have TS, but my cousin does.  Are the tics regular in timing or variable?  If they are fairly regular, work around them in your routine.  Also, try to make your routine brief but effective.

They don't have a regular time. They all just happen randomly and can be distracting at times

I would still work on reducing the pre-shot routine length. Longer time allows more time for distractions.  If you could film your pre-shot, some of the instructors here could help as well.

My cousin doesn't golf, otherwise I would ask him.  He is a pretty good athlete and in his 40s now.

I don't know much about tourettes but I like what @boogielicious said about keeping the routine more brief. Might also be worth having your mouth slightly open/jaw loose when you address the ball.
