I'll be there on Wednedsay, Thursday and Saturday. I'll try and post some info and pics if I get a chance. I'm looking forward to it as it is my first Major. I've played #5 at Pinehurst and only drooled when looking back up #18 of the #2 course.

It will be interesting to see what kind of shape the course is in since the reports (down here anyway) have been pretty iffy about it being Open-ready by next week. I'm sure it will still be better than anything I've seen...although the Wachovia @ Quail Hollow is stunning.

Anyway, like I said...I'll try and post some when I get back those nights.

Fairways and Greens.

No way...I saved myself the embarassment. I'm going for the US Amateur this year though. I haven't played much competitive golf since college. I finally feel like I have my game to a spot where I can keep from making a fool of myself in front of the better amateurs.

I'll try and keep the pics G-Rated. If I get anything...well...you know, I'll send you a message.

Why embarassment? I'm way beyond that. I signed up for our regional pub links , amateur and the Open. Do I have a shot? Hell no. But I get to play 3 private clubs for approx. $100 each, where I'd normally never get to play! With a little bit luck, if I qualify to the finals - Pub links is held at Bethpage Black... that would be sweet

I thought the Pub links this year was at Shaker Run in Ohio...not too far from my original stomping grounds of PA. Anyway, the course I'm trying to qualify for the Amateur is only 5 minutes from my house, so I figured what the heck...I'll need a 70-70 to qualify for the finals. My personal best there is 71 from the tips.

Need to go sharpen my game a bit!

Unfortunatelly I missed the deadline for the USGA Pub Links

... I was talking about the MGA Pub Links (NJ-NY-PA-CT). Still a tough tourney, I don't think a 75 will get me into the second round...

    • This topic can be whatever you'd like it to be. If you're working with an instructor, you may have to mention it occasionally, but people will respect that and you can use this as a diary of sorts.
    • Look at Kevin trying to rationalize his small minority vote. 😄
    • It's all good, man. I appreciate the discussion.   The hole slopes right, towards the penalty area. That's the part just past the cart path that isn't mowed. You can land a ball on the fairway that ends up in it if the ground is firm enough.  Everything that's brown in the satellite image isn't rough. It's fescue, which even during this time of year is tall enough that just finding a ball in it can be hard. Bunkers might as have red stakes around them - I read that in a book, once. So having set that table, here's what the shot cone looks like if I try to play for what you're suggesting: I just don't see that as the optimal play. I need to get out of there with no worse than 5, not try to make 3 and end up with 6 or more. It's a short hole and my strength is in my iron play. I'm actually oddly not much better from 50-100 yards than I am from 100-150 yards. It's like a 4% difference in green success rate and 8' closer in proximity. I don't see that as worth putting trouble into play off the tee for.
    • Day 137 & 138- Forgot to post yesterday but same thing. Slow,  short swings with short practice club.
    • I actually did post a video of my swing today. Those are total distances from my Garmin watch. I don't have as good of an idea with my carry distances. I should go to a range with Trackman some day and get them recorded.
