Can Anyone ID These Irons?

Hello to all, great to be here. I'm trying to identify what exact type pf Ben Hogan Apex Irons in the following picture. Thanks in advance for your help! The set is 2 through PW (Equalizer) and a SW. Sorry it is upside down could not fix it.

Look like Ben Hogan Apex from 1973, here is a good link on Hogan irons.

Looking at that website I have to agree they definitely look like that 1973 model, gotta say those are probably the cleanest looking iron of the bunch, the 78' and 82' medallion models look sweet as well but I think the 73' is the nicest looking.

Considering you have the 2, I sure wouldn't take less than $150. Advanced players may pay closer to $200, depending on condition. Great Irons!

If they are all as nice as the 5 iron, I think $200 is a reasonable asking price since you have the 2. What shaft do they have? If they have the Apex 4 that is usually a plus-kinda equates to a "stiff". The Apex 3 is a regular and the 5 extra stiff.

I don't know-if they are Apex 4 and all as nice as that 5, I might ask $225-250 obo or so and see what happens. You can always negotiate down if you want to.

These clubs have almost a cult following in some circles, but as you have noticed don't bring as much as you would think.Except for really new un-hit and a couple of special editions, most are played at least occasionally rather than collected.

The thing you run into is that these were very popular in the day, so a lot of them out there, and sometimes they find their way into yard sales and thrift stores. I recently bought a virtually un-hit set of MacGregor VIP's, 3-PW, at Goodwill in a fair PING hoofer bag for $30.

If they have original grips in good condition and shaft bands in good condition, they might border on collectible, but still not a lot of money.

The 5 iron looks in great shape and if the rest of the set is as clean I'd think $200 is realistic.  I collect Hogan irons (lefty only) and most sets I've seen are not in as good a condition as the picture you posted.

Thank you for that great info. I play, but my Dad was a very avid golfer (scratch player) who made and collected clubs. I inherited all of his collection and will be selling parts of it from time to time. I wish I could keep it all but I have my own collecting hobby and just don't have the room!

      Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.

      Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group.       I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
