I'm heading into the TPC Boston tomm morning for the final round of the deutsche bank. Ive never been to a pga tour event. 2nd to last pairing is tiger and phil... I'd like to walk with them and watch every shot.

Is it best to get a spot somewhere and stay there all day or walk the rounds and be in the back of crowds? Im so excited for this crap.

Ive never been to one, but I could imagine staying in one spot would be best, if you get there early you could have the best spot on the hole and watch some amazing players. But the downside is you will only see Phil and Tiger once.

If you walk the hole time following the players, you could wind up with a really horrible spot and not see anything. All that walk for nothing..

If you stay in one spot, you never know you could be hit by Phil's ball and get some kind of fancy reward

Everybody is different. Some like to stay in one spot, some like to follow one group and others like to bounce around the course and see many players in many different situations. There is no right answer and only you can figure out what is best for you.

Personally, I like the 1st & 2nd rounds a little better than the 3rd & 4th because whoever I want to see can't possibly have missed the cut yet (but could have walked off the course, been disqualified or withdrawn for some reason) but am almost assured of being able to see whoever I want. Usually. Example of exception? When I went to the U.S. Women's Open in Southern Pines a couple of months ago I wanted to see the Alexis Thompson, the 12-year old girl who qualified for the Women's U.S. Open. My buddy & I had been bouncing around the course and finally got in position to see Alexis. She would be the next group to the tee on a par-3 where we were waiting. Before her arrival at the tee box, the sirens (weather delay) went off. So, sometimes the best laid plans of mice & men go awry.

Anyhow, have a great time. And remember, you will be paying bandit's fees for food, drink & souvenirs, so take plenty of cash.

Here's what I'd do: I'd follow one of the groups three or four groups ahead of Tiger. Every three or four holes, when you can find a good spot, stop and watch Tiger and Phil come through. Then walk ahead and catch up with the group ahead, and repeat as four or five times over the course of the day. This works best on courses that double back on themselves a lot - it'd be a bad plan at St. Andrews.

Alternatively, get a spot on 18 and sit there all day. Less walking, less hassle, and you get to see everyone finish.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I was at the Canadian Open in Vancouver 2 years ago, and did both. There were big crowds there, but nothing like what is going to be following Phil and Tiger. I was following Vijay, and it could get tricky to see anything, and I'm 6'2". We did the same as Iacas did; we'd jump ahead a few holes, get a good spot, and then get a better view. This gives less time watching as part of the time you're running ahead a few holes.

On the Sunday, we were hung over and didn't feel like watching as much, so we got great seats in a grand stand on a driveable par 4, and saw everyone come through. Once the final group passed, we jumped to 18 to try to see the end. I think I liked this day better than the first. Just make a leaderboard is in place on the hole you choose.

My 2 cents.

I followed tiger once at his last time at pebble, I walked the course and watched every shot.. it was more fun to run/walk fast to shots that were on the right side and here him talk about how to hit it and see it... while the greens are hard to find a spot to see well, its not impossible to get a good glimps of them and move on to the next hole.... small compact binoculars are great too to see from further away.. while sitting still in one spot is relaxing in all, moving around and seeing all the course I thought was better and I still got to jump fairways and see others too..

great tips guys... it will be my first event but not the last so I have a feeling I'm just going to follow Tiger. I think its going to be tough with the crowds but I have never seen a force like that on the course, its going to be unreal.

I went to the practice round and second round. your best bet would be to get 3 or 4 holes a head and wait then watch them and do it again other than that you have no hope there are too many people following them, second round it was tiger phil and vijay and everyone was following them, we just went ahead and waited and sergio was ahead of tiger so if you hop ahead you cant get decent spots and get closer than trying to walk with them. have fun its a blast watching them play

Here's what I did for the 2003 PGA Championship when they held it here at Oak Hill. On the final day, we got there at 6:00 in the morning, and I believe the gates opened at 6:30 if I remember right. As soon as they opened, we sprinted over to the 18th hole and got up to the top back corner of the grandstand there.

The reason we went there is because the 18th hole backed up to the 1st tee, and the 14th tee was also visible. Not to mention that the 18th green was also in plain view. We planted ourselves there for the day. And if you remember the shot that Shaun Micheel hit on the 18th hole that final day, the approach shot that he put 3 inches from the hole to clinch the Wannamaker Trophy. I can proudly say I was on the 18th grandstand with a great view of that historic shot. They've called it one of the best clutch shots in major history.

I personally dont care for going to events... I cant stand people moving around while players are hitting... people continue to chatter constantly... and all the "in the hole" and "you da mans!" get REALLY old.

Also it is kind of hard to get in a good position.

THe only event I have been to that was AWESOME was the Tavistock Cup here in Orlando. I went the first year to Lake Nona, there were only maybe a couple hundred people there and we could go basically anywhere and be as close to the players as we wanted. My co-worker was with me and on the first tee she was maybe 10 ft from Sergio and he tossed her a ball (damn boobs!!) lol

I actually had a great experience but I feel as if I enjoy watching the tournament on television. It was an amazing experience seeing the players up close and realizing how good they truly are.

I had a lot of luck today because I busted my ass around holes. I saw Tiger tee off on 1, hit his approach on 2, tee shot on 3, drive on 4, approach on 5, driver on 7... and that was enough for me. there were so many people around tiger and phil today it was just crazy over the top. The drive on 7 was the highlight of my summer really... I had a great view right behind the players right on the ropes. Phil stepped up and just drilled a drive that flew in the air for an eternity and Tiger followed with the same. The sound off the face and the explosion of the ball was just something I have never experienced.

It is pretty amazing to watch a pga tournament for the 1st time. I've only seen one as well which was the Canadian open when it was held at Shaunessy in Vancouver. I watched Mike Weir try to make the cut, I followed him the whole round because there wasnt anyone else really worth watching except probably Vijay. I saw alot of Jesper because he was in front of Mike's group. Honestly there was so much going on at that tournament i found it a bit overwhelming to try and go here and go there. Regardless i can now die a happy man.

A couple of weeks ago i went to a European Tour event - my first event too. I went there on the first day and watched the pairing with Ernie Els playing following them around the course. I didnt enjoyed it that much, since of all the people already following, so i always was in need to look for a good spot to see the next shot. I saw the Boston event on TV and i cant imagine myself having a lot of fun watching "some" shots with all these people.

I will definitely go next year again to the event here - but i will watch live on the driving range and practice area only, but the actual play i will probably just follow on TV.
