Weird things that help you play better

Thread Starter
So this year iv been playing. Better than last year. Only thing different is that I now carry but the funny thing is I lose a lot less balls then I did last year. My average score last year was around 81-82 and this year everything has been high 70s

So now that I carry I only have maybe 12 balls in my bag. I use to bring like 25 and 5 would be lesser balls like q stars for the drives or holes I would take risks on. Now that I don't have as many balls and I'm scared to run out, I am much smarter and am hitting the ball straighter (weird).

What are some odd things that have helped you out?

Nice one, nothing better than the fear of having the legs broken for not paying up on time to play better! ;)

playing short.

on the 99% of holes I can play short of the green I play the shot then finish pin high.

it's really weird but for example if I decide to play 120 metres with a 52° then I force the shot and précision goes down;

if I intend to play 105m with the same club two thing happen : I stay short with a strait foward chip or I finish hole high with a good birdie opportunity.

I don't know what makes me play better but I know what makes me play worse-- trying to hit with a pullover on.  I went out and bought one of these things this winter to use in cooler weather and every time I wear it I hit like garbage.  It's actually made for golf-- it fits snug and stretches easily but every time I use it it immediately affects my swing.

Today for example I went to a driving range.  I hit for a while without it and then it started raining so I put it on and hit noticeably worse, when the raining stopped and I took it off and hit better again.  The snugness really throws me off even though it's not restricting my movement.

As for me, if I had a Normal back, that didn't cramp or hurt, I'd play much better..

I don't know who Lee T. is. Did the same thing happen to him? a2_wink.gif

I put $100 in my golf bag when I first started playing in the money games and told myself I would never play for money again if that $100 was ever gone.

Five years later when I quit the club I counted it and I had $106 in the bag. Once I was up to $165 and (you guessed it) once I was down to $6 in a $10 game.

I was thinking man I sure will hate not being able to play with these guys anymore if I lose today.

When Lee Trevino was starting out, he said he use to bet 5.00, but only had a dollar in his pocket. He's related that story a bunch of times on tv..so naturally I thought that's where you that from...;-)

I play with an older couple and we only bet putts.  Skins to win.   My putting has improved when a Pepsi is on the line.

Oh so that's who Lee T. is. LOL

I never knew Lee and I had one thing in common. We both started out broke.

Unfortunately I remained that way. a2_wink.gif
