I am going to go to the Sunday robin next week for the Constellation Championship here in Pittsburgh. This will be my first live event and want to have a strategy going into it. Do you guys usually follow a group or set up somewhere. I am looking at setting up at the first par three first thing in the morning hole 2 or 3 I think then after the last group comes through I may go set up at the last par 3 hole 17 and then follow into 18. Any advice or tips?

My advice would be to post up at a specific hole and watch all the groups coming through. Your strategy of staying at the first Par 3, and then moving to the last Par 3 sounds like a good one. You'll be able to see all the golfers, and enjoy watching them play rather than navigating the course and the crowd. Unless there is someone specific you would like to follow, that's what I would recommend!

I would want to watch a few groups go through a par 5 hole as well.  Don't you want to see them hit the driver some as well?

I mean, every now and then (like 1 in 100) I can stick a shot close on a par 3.  I will never rip a drive out to 350 though.

Did not think about that. I will have to find a par 5!

I did a little bit of both, following several groups for a few holes and then staying in specific hole for a few groups.   It was possible only b/c I got to the event early in the morning and had a lot of time.   I was dead tired when I got home at 8:00.

BTW, I wish I wore golf shoes to the event.   I did a lot of walking on grass, and kept slipping.

Good advice on the shoes. I would not have thought of that.

PSA... Please, do NOT wear golf shoes. Those that do are generally laughed at behind their backs (usually) as wannabe posers. Wear golf shoes to play golf. Wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers to watch golf.

Those that can't walk upright in grass, in sneakers, deserve to be laughed at. :-)

Re: Shoes.

Last weekend at the Encompass Championship (Senior Tour), I came early and my socks and shoes were thoroughly soaked by the morning dew. My waterproof DryJoys would have been nice, but by noon my footware had dried enough that I no longer heard and felt my footware squishing.

I doubt anyone looks at your shoes, but yes, I also feel those particular golf shoes and shorts are kind of dorky for spectators.

If you had a certain model of True linkswear, you could have the best of both. Good grip, water proof, and they don't look like golf shoes.

Chuckles.   The event that I went to has a lot of hills and I was slipping constantly while negotiating hills. I actually don't give a f*** what others think about how I look.  The can go look at themselves in the mirror.   I'd have not problem wearing golf shoes in the future event.

Don't care about what others think of your shoes. If you find it useful to wear golf shoes; wear golf shoes. They are made to be worn on a golf course, so I don't see any issue with wearing then on a golf course. When I play golf, slipping is more of an issue when walking up or down slippery hills, than slipping during a swing. A spectator may follow groups and walk around the course a lot, making golf shoes a useful footwear.

The people that laugh at others for wearing golf shoes and being "wannabe posers" should get off their high horse. I don't even understand what a "wannabe poser" means.

Your strategy sounds pretty good to me. I just attended an event. The best advice I got here that I never thought of was to spend a little time watching them hit balls at the practice area. Maybe it is just me, but following name players is just a way to get in a bad mood from the crowds and to not see a lot of shots.

I had a blast today. I watched the last 4 groups tee of at the 1st hole and then followed the last group through hole 12. I then camped out by the green at 18 for the rest of the day after grabbing a quick bite. I was rooting for Perry but it was fun to just be out there.

    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).

    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
    • Day 2.    couple mins of rolling putts end over end.    10 mins of Slow, mirror work, working on starting the downswing and impact wrist positions. Hit a couple balls into the net after.    Then finished with a couple chips to see if I could repeat what I worked on yesterday.
