Hey guys i have been playing g10 irons for the past few years and i love how they play for me.  I have been playing 4 iron through PW in G10 and then had Ping tour W wedges in 52, 56, and 60 degree.  I have hit pretty much every iron out there from every manufacturer the last couple of years and I have not found anything that i hit good enough to replace my G10's.  The only complaint i have with the G10 irons is control and feel in the 9 and PW.  Recently I traded out my tour 52 degree for a I25 U wedge, i wanted a little more forgiveness and a club i could go to for terrible lies, anyway I really like the I25 so i was thinking of just swapping out 8,9 and PW in my G10's for the new I25 but leaving my longer clubs in the bag.  Am I crazy for thinking about this move?  I have hit the longer irons in the I25 and the feel to light for me and I tend to hit them thin.

First off, welcome to the site!

No, you are not crazy, go for it, I currently have three kinds of PING irons in my bag, G25, i25 and S55.

Thanks I have been reading on this site for the past couple of years just soaking up all the information but I decided to post this one because it seems a little odd.  Most people pick a set of clubs and just go with that whole set.

I will let you know how it works out for me.

Thanks again,

Now i have never heard of anyone blending their set 3 ways! But it makes perfect sense for someone of your ability. I think for my next set of irons i will be going either fully super GI irons 4-PW (ala Mark Crossfield) as the only thing i would be losing is the pretty looks of a "better players iron" or a blended set e.g. 4-8 AP1,G25 etc and 9-PW AP2,i25 if i really want a slightly thinner top line in the short irons

G25 4 iron, i25 5 iron, S55 6-W, I kind of cheat to say I play 3 sets ;-)

Thats interesting. Do you may the i25 5 iron because you feel like you actually want something between the g25 and s55 for that club? or is it, as i would think, because ideally you would want to play a g25 5 iron as well as the 4 but then the transition between the 5 and the 6 would be too steep?

I hit the i25 5 iron well, it's a nice blend and I have all three sets, so I figured why not.

So far swapping in the I25 U wedge for the Tour S 52 degree has been money.  The I25 is much easier to use around the greens and off of hard pan.  It has great feel but is also very forgiving.  I think I will be adding the I25 wedge very soon.
