Yesterday I finally broke into the 70's for the first time since picking up golf. I started golfing May 29th 2012 so it nearly took me 2 yrs. and 2 months.

Played at Twins Silos in Lavelette WV and shot a 79 on a Par 72 course. I have to attribute the major part of my breakthrough to hitting every single fairway (a first for me), thanks to the new 9.5 Ping i20 that I picked up the day before. I had been gaming a TaylorMade SuperTri 10.5 83 TP shaft and really liked it but for some reason  I would take "spells" that I couldn't find the fairway with it.

The rest of the credit goes to me changing to a Ping Craz-E putter from a Odyssey 2 Ball. I dropped a decent amount of good putts with the Craz-e.

It goes without saying that I am really happy, but at the same time realistic that I just had one of the ''good days" when everything came together.

God Bless!!! Ray

Just a 'Good Day' huh?   remember that feeling, duplicate it, especially those tee shots and you'll start getting more and more of those 'good days'.  and it'll be a fun season for sure

congrats,,,, even if you do use the phrase 'gaming'....   ; )

Most impressive was hitting all fairways. I have never done that. Isn't the Ping Craz-E putter several years old? Haven't seen one of those in many years.

I had never hit all the fairways either until then..., will probably never happen again...., lol

The Ping Craz-E putter is several years old but I got it from a the Course Manager that had it for several years. He told me it was a freebie from a vendor and that he had never used it. I actually really like the thing....., for now......

Thanks divot dave, I am fortunate to have a 2nd home right next to the course and I play there for free all that I want, so I get all the practice I can stand. Everyone tells me I picked the game up very quickly, but for me it doesn't feel like it. I've played competitive sports all my life and never thought it was too big of a challenge but golf has humbled me in every way imaginable. I feel like I should be doing way better than I am especially considering all the time and effort I've been putting into the game......, but I guess that is why I love more than anything I've ever done..., lol

God Bless!!! Ray

Congratulation! Hopefully this is the first of many sub-80 rounds.

I can still remember my first 79, golfing with my best friend, at a local municipal course 46 years ago.

You might want to keep the ball that you used on the last hole and put on the date, score and venue with a marker. Then store away the ball and bring it out to show your grandchildren some day.  (I wish I would have done that.)

Congrats, man. You started playing just over a month before I did. I'm looking forward to breaking 80 myself. Enjoy it!!

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
