Syracuse NY Golf Course Suggestions

To any members living in or around Syracuse... I'm traveling up with my brother to visit some family and was looking for any suggestions on golf courses to play in the area. GolfNow has a few courses but any local insight would be great, thanks.

Nicest public ones (IMO).

Syracuse, NY: Drumlins.

But the following are much nicer and not much of a drive from Syracuse.

Baldwinsville, NY: Timber Banks, Radisson and Foxfire.

Fayetteville, NY: Green Lakes.

Marcellus, NY: Links at Sunset Ridge.

Camillus, NY: Camillus CC (clubhouse burnt down recently)

If you don't mind spending a few bucks, check out Shenendoah, or Kaluhyat at Turning Stone Casino - two of the nicest public courses you'll play anywhere. It's about 30 minutes east of Syracuse.

I thought Atunyote was supposed to be the best of their three? I've played Atunyote and it's quite the beast... Also, I've heard excellent things about Timber Banks. Also, I've played Radisson and it's pretty good.

I will definitely check that out, I forgot Turning Stone was that close.  Thanks for the suggestions all

If you'll be more to the west side of Syracuse, you could also consider a couple courses on the east side of Rochester... Ravenwood or Greystone. And it's a little more of a drive, but Bristol Harbour is a great course, and beautiful. Also depending on how far you're willing to drive, The Sagamore is great and beautiful. That's probably 2 hours northwest of Syracuse. The courses at Turning Stone are great as well, as others have suggested

Not to keep this tread going or anything but I wanted to give a big shout out to Timber Banks.  Out of the 3 courses I played (drumlins, green lakes, timber banks)  Timber Banks was the best.  Great course, very difficult Nicklaus designed course!  If you're ever in Cuse this is a must play. (I didn't get to play Turning Stone but I'm sure those are great too)

Not to keep this tread going or anything but I wanted to give a big shout out to Timber Banks.  Out of the 3 courses I played (drumlins, green lakes, timber banks)  Timber Banks was the best.  Great course, very difficult Nicklaus designed course!  If you're ever in Cuse this is a must play. (I didn't get to play Turning Stone but I'm sure those are great too)

Good choice on Timber Banks, everyone I know raves about it.

Assuming you played the west course at Drumlins and for $25 it's not too bad. You probably noticed the east course (private) is in much nicer shape.

Green Lakes is operated by NYS Parks and usually maintained well and a fun layout.

You saved a bunch of cash by not including Turning Stone at this time of year. If you visit your family during the fall, check out their rates. We played Shenendoah last September or early October and it was $50 including cart.

Yea Drumlins private course looked nice!  Don't knock Syracuse, there are a lot of good courses there. And a quick historical footnote, The first public golf course is Burnett Park Golf Course, opened in 1901... in case you're ever on Jeopardy haha
