I've finally started hitting the ball where I want it to go ( for the most part) and now I want to start playing a 3 piece golf ball. Not ready to spend $45 on prov1's but want a good durable 3 piece ball. What's the best???

MG Golf has a ball that produces the same or better spin characteristics as a Pro V1 for $20/dozen new. A few days after I heard about this ball, I found one playing, finished the round with it, it performed quite well.

Keeping budget in mind, I would recommend the the Maxfli U/3 at $40/2 dozen.  You also cannot go wrong with any of the Gamer series for less money or the TM Project (a) for about $31/dozen.  Quite frankly the list is a long one but the above balls work great for me.

I have tried a lot of different 3 pc as well as the Pro V's and I fell in love with the 3F12 ball. It usually lasts me 3 games or better with out getting all marred/cut up. And I tear up most balls with my wedges by the 3rd hole and this includes the Pro V's . It is a soft feeling ball and has given me a little distance gain as well. It isn't the $20 dollar ball but it is sl long lasting the cost is cheaper unless you loose many which is when I have to pull a new one (which thankfully isn't very often now days). Take a look at 3UPgolf.com. Rob's a great guy and donates a $1 for every dozen sold. Good luck on your search for the ball for you.

I'd seriously look into the Maxfli U3, or Titleist NXT

I've hit both and have several of each in my bag, and think they perform very similar..

I do plan on picking up some more of the U/3's to give them a whirl..

Price wise, obiviously favors the Maxfli's...

It is what it is

The NXT Tour is the ball I've played all season before bumping up to the ProV1x range last weekend for the first time. It's really a terrific ball. As an alternative, the ball I would buy if I were buying balls, would be the Callaway Hex Control balls from Costco. They play as well as the NXT Tour, but for a fraction of the price. Both really react well around the greens and on approach shots. Not as amazing as the ProV1x, but close enough. It's so much fun to not have to play for roll outs from chips using Velocity style rocks. Enjoy!

I've been playing the TF Gamer 3 piece for the last month or so - seems like a fine ball to me.

FWIW, the new Srixon AD333 Tour is a pretty damned good ball. Been using them quite a bit this Summer. 3-piece, great price point, urethane cover. Spin for approach and short game is excellent (albeit not at, for example, ProV1 level) and it feels really nice off the putter. Very white, doesn't fade and fantastic cover resilience as well. Quite possibly a 'keeper' for me.
