The Bridgestone World Championship is this week in Akron.  An interesting tweet by Will Gray of the Golf Channel.

"If neither wins this week in Akron, Monday will be first day since Jan. 21, 1995 that neither Tiger nor Phil holds a current PGA Tour title."

That is a pretty impressive statistic to how consistent those two guys have been.  Almost twenty years since neither is a defender of a tournament title.

That is a pretty amazing stat. I don't see either winning this week, either. From those who watched Tiger today, word is his driver was all over the place.

Put a few bucks on Adam Scott this week. Hoping he can win this for a 2nd time (9th time for Stevie).

Stevie is playing?

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Love this course. Probably will never play it... Anyways, I don't really have high hopes for Tigs. He's got more inner conflict with that driver than Rosie O'Donnell at A Weight Watchers seminar...

Looking forward to it. My personal favorite Joost Luiten going in early in a flight with Fernandez-Castano I see. Would love to play on this course myself once, but that will probably never happen...

Good drivers win this tournament. Dont think Tiger stands much of a chance this week. I like Scott or Furyk to win this bad boy.

I should not have passed up the tickets that I was offered to attend this year. It's only about 15 minutes away from me and I haven't even gone once (lived here all of my life too). I think I'll go next year for sure.

I remember following Jack around one year at Firestone, like in the late 70s - I grew up about 20 minutes away. Followed him the whole round. He shot a 68 with birdies on the two par 5s (2nd & 16th) and 16 pars. Don't think he missed a fairway or green (he likely did I just don't remember it). He was just machine-like, workman-like.

Firestone is just a straightforward VERY long HIGH rough NARROW fairway classic course. I think that's why the pros love it so much. No trickiness. Just hit the shots.

So… Tiger was a good driver eight times before?

Ok so if Stevie won 7 with tiger and one with Adam 7+1=?

8, and so…

Put a few bucks on Adam Scott this week. Hoping he can win this for a 2nd time (9th time for Stevie).

8+1 = 9.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
