Thanks for posting. This is more in line with what my perceptions of the Gretzky family have been; quite different from some of the craziness that's been spewed on this thread about them.

Ditto on both counts.

He posted a video of him playing golf. It has since been removed.

I personally have never really been a big of DJ but that's not to say he's tackling his demons and getting help for it. You hear about the rumors of infidelity that were quite well known within the tour circle and it makes you wonder how it didn't get out earlier. Supposedly he broke up a marriage of a current player on tour as well... if it's already been talked about then my apologies.. came into the thread kind of late.

There is hope for him.  Tom Watson had a substance abuse problem (alcohol) and MARRIED another tour player's wife and he did OK.

Possibly the combination of being a dad and failing drug tests was enough to make him realize he needed help.

Having my first kid helped me with my mountaineering addiction, it does put a certain perspective on things.

Having children definitely puts a lot of things into perspective.  As a parent, you no longer have the luxury being selfish.

Yeah, everything centers around them. Lucky for me they play golf. Which, to be honest, is why I'm playing. a1_smile.gif

I wish that were true. I see too many parents who don't change anything when having kids. There have been several stories on the local news in the last year about parents who are doing drugs in their car while their kids are playing in the McD's play area or similar. Selfishness seems to be a disease. Along those lines, kudos to DJ for taking the right road and getting clean. I'm making an assumption that is what he is doing of course.

Very true. That's why I choose not to have kids. I like my life without kids too much.

You're right, I could never be sure. But my cons list is orders of magnitude longer than the pros list for having kids.

The other thing is I'm a school teacher. I have plenty of opportunities to have meaningful, rewarding, life affirming interaction with children.

Come on, be honest.  This is part of the reason, but the main reason is simply because you don't gusta poop. ;)
