Apparently, Duffy gave his putter away to a little boy on the 10th hole this past weekend in Akron at the WGC Bridgestone. Here's a link to the Grantland article:

This is an exchange between Shane Ryan of Grantland and Dufner:

Quote:

“Jason,” I said, “I heard a story that you gave your putter away to a kid yesterday. I wanted to make sure it was true.”

“Yup.”

“Was that on no. 12?”

“Ten.”

Dude is a class act. 100% class.

He was -1.741 strokes gained - putting, I probably would have gave it away too. :-P

But, yes, Dufner is one cool individual. Definitely one of my favourites, hope he can get his game back on track.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Most of these guys are pretty genuine people , especially when u compare the stars to other sports. That is probably a main reason why PGA doesn't divulge indiscretions like DJs. Sergio hit a woman with a ball early in final rd and knocked diamond out of her wedding ring. He told officials to get her contact info if diamond in the rough wasn't found. I have no doubt he would've paid to replace it which is pretty darn nice as well.

I think that is really cool of Duff ... one of the reasons I converted to a Ricky Fowler fan was his acknowledgment of the little kids dressed in orange and following him.

Love seeing the younger kids involved in the game, and my hats are off to players and parents that support them.

U think 1 guy like DJ represents the whole tour? Ill take PGA stars and what they do in charity and the way they act over stars of every other sport. Thank u for asking me to think about it though

I think he is saying the guys on tour appear better mannered because the tour covers up indiscretions like DJ's. That's why your post didn't really make sense. No need to cover up if everyone is doing good.

Ahh. Well that makes more sense but there's hardly anything to cover up. Maybe 1 thing like this every few years.

There are "cover-ups" in every sport, business, school, police department, government branch, etc. though. At least the PGA comes straight out and says "We decide whether or not we make these types of issues public". That's not necessarily a "cover-up" in my book and in my own opinion. A cover-up, to me at least, is some entity going out of their way to fabricate and materialize things in order to literally cover-up the truth, whether that's with lies, paying people off, etc. Simply withholding private information of a player who is having personal issues is not a cover-up, that's just called 'confidential and private'.
