Anyone else prefer European players to the American ones?

With Tiger not playing good and Phil entering the end of his career I still like the younger American players and will root for my country in the Ryder cup but am I the only one who enjoys watching the European guys like McIlroy, Sergio, Rose, McDowell, Kaymer, etc more? I think a lot of them have more text book swings to study and for some reason just prefer that group of players. Anyone else prefer the majority of the players coming out of Europe?

I know, I don't discriminate but it was just an observation that more of the players I tend to like are coming out of Europe or Australia even

A lot of it is to do with familiarity, I think. More of the decent players from Europe and around the world are playing a lot in the States these days, which used to be a rarity.

Most of my favourite players are Euros. Now that may just be pure coincidence or may have to do with my love of European culture. That's not to say I don't like American players or that I make a conscious choice of one over the other, it just is. Meh, probably just coincidence.

I like Bubba because he plays golf in his own way. He's an interesting golfer unlike many others.

It's just so funny when you think that Bubba just practiced golf in the backyard and allegedly never even had any paid golf lessons in his life. The guy obviously ended up well enough in the end, twice the masters champion.

I also like JB Holmes for the same reason, homegrown swing.

Probably a mix of American and European golfers that are my favorite.

Don't buy the hype.

If they still sold black and white TVs, I'd probably watch the Euro tour exclusively...but some of those outfits - YIKES.

Bubba is an arrogant prick mostly, but he's got some golf game for sure.

Twice the masters champ ain't no slouch in my opinion.

I like some spaniards(MAJ, RCB, GFC, Serg), but that's about it. I don'y particularly care for any you mentioned

I meant the fairy tale of how he learned to play golf on a desert island using nothing but old branches and coconuts he found on the beach. The guy is faker than FIGJAM's nipple prosthetics.

I like watching the Euro guys right now because they are playing better.  I like watching a guy who has the potential to dominate a field (whether he does it or not that day is a different matter).  Right now Rory is my favorite golfer to watch.  I've been enjoying watching Sergio play well, too.

But yeah - I'm definitely a US golf fan and will root for the US in the Ryder cup . .and I mostly watch the Euro guys in US events.  I don't watch too many Euro events.  The announcers make me sleepy, lol.

personally, i don't care where they came from... usa, europe, mars, whereever... rory right now is the favorite to watch, because he posesses the "gear no one else has" and makes the very hard look very easy, and he is the first since the glory days of "you know who" to have that combination... it also helps that he has a certain charisma/aura plus a "little brother likeability" that the other guys simply don't possess... many of the younger talented players (i'm looking at you, jordan spieth) that various golf outlets are trying to shove down our throats simply don't have either the "gear" or the "charisma"... rory makes me want to watch him, even if he is running away with an event... i'd also watch a continuous loop of adam scott hitting balls on the range, simply in the hope that some of that swing could find its way into the pathetic slash i call a golf swing... :-) i look at it this way... when i'm old and drooling in a cup, what players willl i tell my nephews i saw play? until a few years ago, it was a foursome of jack, seve, tiger and phil... rory is coming very close to making that a fivesome...

I don't discriminate. There are golfers from Europe and the US that I like and dislike. I can't think of any South Africans who I don't like, though I can't name more than like a few that are currently playing.

While I'm in the U.S. and will of course root for the home team in the Ryder Cup (not that it's going to do us much good this year) I certainly like several of the European players.

There are Euros that I would pull for over several Americans on Tour.  I don't pick who I like based on where they're from.  There are great guys and jerks from every country on Earth.

I think this preference is because there is usually something unique about European players that you can easily identify them by:

• Rory is just the most talented, makes everything look easy
• Kaymer has that "German robot" mistique
• Sergio came on the scene at 19, has been prickly and irritable until recently, plus Ryder Cup success
• McDowell/Rose - put these guys in the same boat - likeable, but we won't "miss them"

Honestly, I think a lot has to do with their accents, which makes them memorable to Americans.  Take Lee Westwood for example - he was great when young, has competed in majors, but your impression of him is probably more that "he's a likeable chap." Many of these players are also propped up by the fact that they are the best 2-3 players their countries has ever seen.

Unless you're transcendent (Tiger), to be popular in the US you have to have something unique that people connect with.  Guys like Bubba, Ricky, and even Jim Furyk (odd swing) all have something identifiable that make them unique.

US fans just don't care about the Jimmy Walker's of the world until they do something truly special.
