I'm wanting to add a gap wedge to my bag.  All my irons and wedges to date have been fitted and ordered at +2* UP.  My local golf shop says they can bend a Mizuno gap wedge up.  Will this be as reliable (holding it's new angle) as ordering it custom?  Or will Mizuno just do the same thing?  What would you do?  Thanks

amac,

I'm not a golf expert by any means.  I just ordered new AP2's and got them bent in the factory by Titleist.  I would always recommend getting them modified by the manufacturer.  They deal with the same equipment all day throughout the year.  Not saying that your local golf shop wouldn't do a good job, I just think its worth the extra 3-5 day wait to ensure your clubs are perfect.  I'm sure Mizuno would have a better warranty or be more understanding if something went wrong.  Just my $.02

If someone knows what the hell they're doing is it worth the custom fee yes... can the local shop do it, maybe... if they are an authorized dealer then you should be fine getting it bent locally because if it is an authorized dealer, if they mess up it doesn't void the warranty

Just remember when you bend a wedge you change both the loft and the bounce. I love the Mizuno JPX wedges and wanted a 60 degree with more bounce than they make. I had my local PGA Superstore take a 58-10 and bend it to 60, which increased the bounce to 12. It took them 5 minutes.

You're right, but the OP isn't changing loft, he's only changing lie. That won't affect either loft or bounce.

Glad to see this post. I was unaware the impact of bending a club. But, I'm only changing the lie angle. Edwin Watts is the shop I'm planning to use. They should be gtg. Thanks
