My Swing (48bsalkin)

I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 4.8

My typical ball flight is: Straight/Slight draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is:

Hi guys,

I'd greatly appreciate any advice or thoughts you have on my swing. I'm currently hitting the ball pretty good and the swing feels ok. However, I don't like the fact that back swing is quite flat. What do you guys think, should I stick to the "natural feel flat swing plane" or try to adjust it to a more steeper one?

On another forum, the general feedback seems to be that a flat swing cannot produce consistent results in the long run, at least not at the same level as its steeper counterpart. In addition, given the feedback, I believe that the biggest flaw is in the take away, what do you think?

Hi, welcome to the forum firstly

I would agree the swing is definitely on the flat side but I cannot give you any good swing advice so best to wait for the experts to take a look. I can however recommend you have a read of this thread:

Posting a swing thread is a good place to start but the more you post in other threads the more quickly people will get to know you and be willing to help and share things on your thread.

Hope you stick around!

It's flat because your right elbow orbits too far behind you, it "slides" behind your shirt seam. The "fix" isn't to just make the arms more upright, it would be to change how the right arm works. You can still have a left arm that matches the shoulder pitch (right pic) and keep the right elbow in front of your shirt seam.

Blue line is where your right arm is.

Would recommend this drill and feel

Thanks Mvmac and FooFader for the warm welcome.

Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. Makes so much sense, didn't even realize how stuck my elbow must have been back there! Can't wait to get to the range and try it out tomorrow :)

Hi guys,

I've been working on the "trail elbow problem" for a week or so now. I believe I get the motion right in my practice swing? However, every time I hit a ball it's generally the same swing that it was before even if I feel that I'm doing exactly the same. Probably just a mental issue?

I uploaded a video below where you can see both my practice and my actual swing. What do you think about the swings? Is there improvement regarding the trail elbow? Other comments on swings are also welcome :)

Just have to do it more, go nuts with the feel. Your upper right arm still slides behind you and stays "glued" to your side. I'll add that you'll want to feel the arms load much more "in front of you" and UP. Note how in the examples I posted the right arm from elbow to mid-tricep is separated from the side of the body.

And make sure to check out this thread
