i have a question about the downswing. i was trying something at the range tonight and man did it work great. when they say you have to hit the ball from the inside, that is if you want to make consistent ball striking, what should that feel like? at the range tonight i was working on hitting it from the inside and in order to do this i felt like as i started the downswing my left arm was swinging down close to my body. for example as i swing down my left arm is coming close to my body like it is brusing my belt buckle on the way down ( it really isnt brusing my belt buckle i am just trying to describe what if feels like) is this correct???

you have the right concept. Another analogy is.... pretend you have line going from your chin straight down and you want to lead with your left hand behind that line, allowing the club head to drop down as your swinging through the ball, finishing up high on your follow through.

Good job.. keep up the good work..

hey thanks!!!! i love this analogy. so basically at address a line drawn from the chin to the ground and try to swing the left arm down between your body and that line without getting outside that line????? i like that better than my analogy. i will have to try that. i love this game. my left arm close to the body on the downswing was resulting in great ball striking.

yeap that's the idea. As you practice this more and more, you want to be conscious of your lag timing. the greater the lag the more effortless your swing will be and the more power you'll create.

Welcome to the world of ball striking. Now that you are here, there are a few rules. Rule #1: You cant tell anyone else the secrets of good ball striking, they must stumble upon it as you did.

Just messing with ya. Feels good to really compress the golf ball doesnt it?

Another way I've heard it described is this. Imagine a line drawn from behind the ball, through the ball, out towards the target. Now, the ball is the middle of a clock face. Following the imgainary line, behind the ball is 6, in front of the ball is 12 on the clock - make sense so far?

You want your club to swing through the ball moving from 7 o'clock to 1 o'clock.

RED SOX FAN HERE,

thanks for the tip, i have been practing this game for 6 years now trying to hit the ball from the inside. i tried your tip in the past trying to hit the ball at 7 o clock but the problem was i would try to hit from the inside by coming over the top and hitting it from the inside and i would hit hooks. i have found that keeping my left arm close to my body has worked brilliantly. thanks for the tips and keep them coming. its like good ball strikers arent telling the secret!!!!! shhhh

this has been working really well for me, i have been working on it hard, it will take some time as when i get my woods in my hand since they are longer i tend to want to go over the top of it like my old swing. i am trying really hard to keep that left arm swinging close to my body on the downswing and not let it get out in front of that imaginary line drawn from my chin to the ground. Tell you one thing, this definetly creates great ball striking. Is there a such thing as swinging that left arm too close to your body on the downswing??? (looks like Vijays left arm almost brushes his pants on the downsing)

On your setup.. try keeping your hands slightly behind the ball. Then as you take your club back try to either swing just a bit outside of the plane of the ball(this is what i do) or straight back the plane of the ball. On your way down....keeping that right hand inside, drop the club then release.

BTW* this is a two plane technique you're learning.
