This game is such a mind****. Sorry for the unpro language but i cant help it .

I was playing the monsoon cup today , on the 11th hole i hit my best drive ever. I use a RBZ rocket balls driver and i banged this srixon ball 325 yards bang in the middle of the fairway . Believe me when i say that i couldnt have placed it better with my own hands . My four ball was super impressed. I too was feeling really happy with myself since i had a triple on the last hole.

so im left with 90 yards . The ball is sitting perfectly and there is a strong tail wind. I cant decide between a 3/4 th sand and a full lob . My caddy after seeing my distances suggests a full lob. Now after a super drive like that im obviously feeling super confident that im going to be on the green with a confirmed bird in hand.

I take 3  to 4 dry swings to check if im bottoming out correctly and getting that cutting edge divot . Having done my pre shot routine i swing and its a horrible duff .I get some 30 yards .  Im extremely agitated with myself and try to calm myself down that i can still do an up and down and get out of here with a par. I decide to stick with the lob . With 60 odd yards left and the tail still up i need to hit a 3/4 th 60 deg now . I take two dry swings focusing on bottoming out and making that controlled 3/4th of a swing . I hit my 3rd and its a goddamn duff again!!!! My caddy is in disbelief and the other 4 ball caddy is looking the other way and is in splits . My four ball looks at me with 1/3rd sympathy , 1/3 rd joy and 1/3rd  " WTF happened there there is no way you could have done that !!! "

Now i mean this is literally the fricking heights . It has never happened that i have hit a really stellar drive and im feeling super pumped up about my self and the game but i end up ruining two consecutive shots . Its one thing to screw up your tee shot which is a confidence killer and then to take that low feeling to the next shot but here i have hit the best drive ever , feeling like adam scott , and then to duff like i had hit the tee further than the ball the previous shot.

The tournament got washed out but thats not making me feel any better either .

How do you deal with such incidents when they happen ?

Looking forward to hearing from you guys.. i need to hear some really horrible stories so i can start feeling better again . Lol

It happens to all of us.  You need to forget the bad shots that already happened.  You cannot change the past.  For the next shot, you need to clear your mind, relax and take extra care at set up.  You know you can do this next shot.

Monsoon Cup, a washed out tournament?.....I am assuming you were playing in wet conditions? Perhaps, if possible, a different shot selection might have been a better choice.

I have had scenarios like yours  before. It happens, and I am sure it will happen to me again at some later date. It's golf, and goofy things are just a part of the game. As posted above, you just move on to the next shot. The last one was over the split second the ball left the club face.

I was at the bottom of a raised green. The green was about 20' higher than where my ball was. For some reason the pin was left out of the hole by those golfers in front of us. My partner asked if I wanted it back in. I told him no, but to move the pole out of my way. I hit a perfect lob, and the ball came straight down, and hit the bottom of the cup, bounced out, and landed off the green, leaving me basically with the same shot from the other side of the green.

In New Mexico (Grants?) there is a course that sometimes has rattlesnakes laying on the greens/fairways. The locals play around these critters using a local rule, which to me is some what bizarre. Not the rule, but putting with rattlesnakes nearby watching you.

I was playing my regular course last summer, on the 17th par 4 hole which has a small dog leg left.  My tee shot was great right down the middle heading for the slight hill where the dog leg starts, I'm thinking its going to land and roll out about 20 yards over and down the hill towards the green splitting the two fairway bunkers.  What I didn't see was two mallard ducks lifting off from the lake on my right.  You guessed it I beaned the lead duck right under the left wing about 30 feet in the air with the ball right in the middle of the fairway.  The ball bounced off the vandal duck and bounced twice and rolled into the left fairway bunker.  A lousy bunker shot left me in the greenside bunker, which led to a lousy escape for a tricky 30 foot down hill putt which of course I missed.  Ended up with a double bogey when I thought for sure I was heading for birdy land (guess I did get a birdy) only not the kind I was hoping for.

When I read the thread topic, golf stories good or bad aren't what come to mind.   When I think of bizarre things, I think of non-golf related things.

I remember one time I was playing in  a club tournament.   This was 15 years ago and I guess I didn't have my cell phone with me.   The assistant pro drives out onto the course and finds me, and asks me to jump in the cart........he said my wife called and needs me to come home now.   She didn't say why.......  my mind is racing.  I have no clue what is going on!!!   She knows I am playing in a tourney, so she would never call for me to come home unless it's important.  I am worried that somebody died or something...

I race home and she is in bed ....'balled up' in serious pain..........I rush her to the hospital and she has emergency surgery to have an appendectomy!

I can think of one other............my friend tees off on a long par5.  A HUGE eagle lands near his ball, picks it up, and flies away with it.   It flew maybe 75yds further down the fairway before it realized this wasn't food and dropped it.   My friends says........ I need to play it where it lies, right?   Hahaha.....and he did just that!!

Something similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago. A fox ran off with my golf ball! I chased him but he got away. It was a Pro V. :-(

More funny that bizarre

True story

I went out early one morning to play a round of golf by myself. I got on the first tee and an elderly gentleman about 75 years of age came along and asked if I would mind if he played the round with me, to which I replied, I would love to have you join me.

We began playing our round of golf and got to the 7th par 5 tee. I teed off and my sliced balled landed off to the right about 20 or so yards behind a tree. The elderly gentleman came over to check out what type of second shot I might have. After having looked over what I might be able to do next, he said, "the last time I ended up in that spot, I pulled out my 8 iron and lofted my ball over that tree and straight towards the pin." So I said, OK, it's worth a try, so out comes my 8 iron and I hit the ball, even made good contact. Up goes my ball and hits the tree and bounces back at my feet.

I looked at my elderly partner and he looked at me and said, "The last time I was in that spot, that tree was a lot shorter"

LOL

That's the most bizarre thing that's happened to you?  That happens to me all the time, lol.  Except my awesome drive is more like 260 down the middle.  I have noticed that putting myself into position to make a birdie or something really messes me up . .it's best if I don't even realize it . which almost never happens.  One of my best rounds ever I was playing with a stranger and we were having a really nice conversation when he goes "you just parred the last 4 holes" . .I had no idea.  After that I totally started screwing up.

But the most bizarre thing that ever happened to me while playing golf actually was at the range while warming up.  Some crazy homeless guy wandered out of the woods and onto the range.  A group of high school kids were on the range and they started hitting at him.  He probably around 250 to 300 yards out so nobody hit him . .but he started dancing around and giving them the finger and stuff . .and they kept hitting at him . .until the course pro came out and made everybody stop hitting and then escorted him off the property.  Well. .I guess that didn't happen to me because I was not hitting at the guy - but it was bizarre.

over 10 years ago, Dog leg left, big slice right over the trees (by your truly) into the crowded parking lot, then i heard the car alarm go off, we all laughed, 45 minutes later car alarm is still sounding.we call it a day and head to our cars.....

I then discovered it was my car, with a fresh ball dent on the hood at the base of the windshield....

The most unnusal thing I witnessed was a buddy on a par 3 hit the small pump house roof, deflecting towards the green , hits a trap rake going by and into the hole.

I set up to tee off on the 5th hole and noticed a flock of geese out on the fairway. Not paying much attention to the geese, I teed off with a low line drive and hit one of the geese. I turned to my golfing partner and said: "I got a birdie"

I was playing with my dad one afternoon, sneaking in holes after I got home from college and him front work. The fourth hole is a straight-forward 430 yard par-4, but if you hit your tee-shot too far down the right side, it'll kick down the hill and go into the woods.

Guess what I did.

So we go and find my ball behind some trees; fairly easy shot, about fifteen feet of space to put my ball through. But when I hit the ball, I pulled it. And the ball hit the trees. And it ricocheted backwards and knocked my hat off.

Needless to say, I picked up.

I was invited to play with a friend and his guests at a course 20 miles North of home. I had time for lunch first so made a sandwich and a crow got it when I went for a soda. I dispatched the crow, finished lunch and drove to the course. Walking down #5, a long straight par 5, I am alone on one side of the fairway when I spot some crows 100 yds ahead. I thought "I wonder if you guys know I shot one of your brothers". As if on que, they flew directly to me and started dive bombing me. I fought them off with an iron but it took a while, as I walked maybe another 30 yards. I had absolutely no food on me or in my bag. Pretty scarey I can tell you. Easily 20 miles away. It will get you thinking.
