Apple Watch Golf GPS

I guess it is only a matter of time before a Golf GPS app is displayed on an Apple watch.

Not a great value proposition standing alone but could be interesting.  The benefit over a standard GPS watch would be the ability to go to the phone when needed and pull up specific layups and things like that.  I found way back when I tried it that a app on an iphone was cumbersome and killed the battery.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

I think it would be a waste. It'll not only suck the phone battery (GPS constantly), but it'll suck the watch battery too. Plus you'd have to wear the thing (it's not small) while playing golf. I prefer not to wear a watch at all while playing golf.

Any Android wear watch works currently with GolfShot. I already use my phone for golf GPS, so if I can tolerate playing with the watch, I'll likely get one just for that purpose.

Current GPS watches are pretty bulky.  I don't think the Apple watch is any bulkier.  Also not using the display on the phone may preserve the battery to a degree.

I guess I am not sure I get any smart watch?  Phones are getting bigger, this make the screen smaller.  Having just past 50, I know smaller is not my friend.

Hi,

I think the Apple Watch will be a phenomenal GOLF gadget. GPS with quick and easy access (Glances) to front and back of green distances, carry over water, and so on, according to where you are is on obvious thing.

I addition all the sensors and technology opens for a ranges of functionality. Swing speed, rhythm and release for one, giving us feedback on consistency and development. However, in combination with other devices it will be awesome. Take for instance GAME GOLF fully synchronized with “Apple Watch Golf App”. You know which club you hit, how far and accurate, with what club speed, with what pulse and stress level. It can also supplement weather and wind conditions. This will give important and fun information to players at all levels. In combination with GAME GOLF, you could also envision instant adding of penalty shots (water drop) and uploading of you round without plugging into a computer.

I very much look forward to some of the GOLF GPS apps to grab this opportunity and present us keen golfers with even more valuable and fun knowledge about mastering this cool game :-)

If they came up with a really cool golf app for the watch, that might convince me to get one. As it is, I've been leaning against it.

There was a guy recently here on the forums promoting his GPS watch that sounds similiar to what you're describing. His watch didnt look bad at all size wise to me, but maybe thats becasue Im used to wearing a Fitbit while golfing.

That app already exists, GolfShot.

Well, I use GolfShot all the time. But if they could do even more with the watch's data. Track your swings or shots somehow and give you more information about each swing. As it is, tracking each shot is kind of a pain in the ass. It'd be cool if they could do something like what the Game Golf does.

Get a GG then. Costs $150 less and doesn't wear down your phone battery or require a big heavy watch on your wrist.

GameGolf doesn't provide any in-round information.

I've been thinking about it. But then I'd be using GolfShot for the in round score/stats and GG for the post round analysis. Seems like too much stuff going on.

That's my thought too. Maybe GameGolf 2.0 will have a display on it to give you distances.

I hope not.

The beauty is its simplicity. If they start adding to it, they'll ruin what it is.

That is why the integrated GAME GOLF and Apple Watch is a killer combo :-)

GAME GOLF for the simplicity and efficient tagging (data registration) and Apple Watch for all you want of functionality and display. Use the GAME GOLF as GPS with only local data transfer between the GPS and the watch. Battery problem solved. Just like on the beautiful, but overly expensive Reconvilier Hercules Golf Master http://www.reconvilier.com/index3.asp?id=325〈=2&m1;=11700&m2;=32011700&m3;=3251170000100&stufe;=11700&stufe2;=1170000100&inhalt;=325

Cant wait…

The watch communicates with an iPhone only. Apple isn't going to be adding a general purpose Bluetooth access point or something.
