http://www.complex.com/sports/2014/09/jr-smith-talked-trash-michael-jordan
Over the course of the last few years, J.R. Smith has pretty much become obsessed with golf. In fact, this past spring, he spent 21 straight days on the golf course and devoted a ton of time to getting better at the sport. So recently, Bleacher Report reporter Jared Zwerling followed Smith around during his eighth annual Youth Foundation Classic at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood Township, N.J. to talk to him about his love for the game of golf. The Knicks guard shared all kinds of interesting tidbits about his passion for golf—like that Moses Malone was the one who first forced him to play the game—but the most interesting thing that Zwerling found out during his Q&A; was that, recently, Smith talked some trash to Michael Jordan with regards to his golf game. Smith said that he usually gets pretty starstruck around MJ but that, the last time he saw him, he challenged him to a round of golf. "I've talked to [MJ] a few times," he said. "I'm always so starstruck that I forget to ask him questions. The last thing we talked about was golf. I tell him, 'I'll whup your ass.' He doesn't want to play me, though. He plays a lot, like, with [golf pro] Keegan Bradley." Since Tiger Woods has been struggling for the last few years, our interest in golf has gone wayyyyyyy down. So here's a free idea for CBS or one of the other big sports networks out there: Set up a match between J.R. Smith and Michael Jordan immediately and televise it. It'll cost you a lot of money to get MJ on board, but we promise it'll be the most-watched golf event of the year decade.
I'm not sure how much money this would take, and I have far less than both MJ and J.R. Smith, but I'd pay anything to watch an uncensored golf match between these two.

Only slightly related because I don't know how good he is or anything but I saw J.R Smith couple months ago when I went to a golf trip at The Legends courses at Myrtle Beach. He was 3 groups ahead of us on the course we played that day and saw him hanging out at the clubhouse/restaurant afterwards. Took a picture with my buddy. Seemed like a real approachable guy. The round was slow though and I just assumed it's because JR Smith sucked lol. Kind of a running joke that day.

JR for the win. Crazy as shit but supreme athlete. If he had Kobe's brain he would have been the next MJ. Had season tix a few years ago and some of the stuff he did was amazing.

I wouldn't watch these guys play if they were teeing it up in the foursome ahead of me. Those celebrity pro ams are unwatchable, so why would this be any kind of entertaining. If Jordan is really a two, there are guys on this forum who will give him strokes and still stomp his narrow ass into a mud hole. Keegan Bradley said he will give Jordan 6 strokes and wager all the real estate on the coast of Florida. Yea, those guys have nasty cross-overs and can go strong to the hole. But that doesn't translate into a good golfer. None other than Bo Freakin' Jackson is serious about the game and he's plays off 6. Pass.

I remember Jordan played Bethpage in 2009 with Ben Roethlisberger and Justin Timberlake in a pre US Open special to see if they could break 100. IIRC, Jordan was the worst of the 3, with Roethlisberger winning with an 86.

Roethlisberger won with an 81, MJ shot the 86.

Rookie move.

NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY can talk shit to Air Jordan.

Hmmm. I would, MJ, as good as he was, is a ass...He may have gazillions of $$$$, but he treats people like crap. And yes, I saw it first hand. I wouldn't spend a dime to watch, but I hope If they do play, JR kick's his butt.

Remember how Jordan used to get worked by those minor league pitchers?  They'd break off a curve ball or throw a change up and Jordan would be lunging and spinning and augering in looking the fool.  And these were MINOR league pitchers.  Couldn't even make the Show.

Just because you're the GOAT in one sport, doesn't mean you're going to dominate another. If he's keeping a true handicap, then anyone else with a true handicap that isn't intimidated by celebrity status has an even chance.  If he's vanity capping (likely) then he's going to lose like he did back in the 90's.  Either he was vanity capping or the other guy was 'bagging (probably a little of both).  Either way, he lost thousands on the golf course because of his gigantic ego.

That LA Times story talks about million dollar plus golf rounds. For comparison I think Jordan makes around 90 million per year so if I make 90k the math is easy. Jordan betting a million on a round is like me betting a thousand. (I've never even got close to a thousand dollar wager) Actually come to think of it there is a big difference because proportionately less of the 90k would be disposable income. I am thinking he can afford it.

Respectfully,

Ask Kwame Brown. MJ was Richie Incognito before Richie Incognito.

Of course he does, but have you never read stories of what MJ does to people who try to talk trash to him? He destroys them. And he's walking sports royalty. MJ can talk shit and destroy me at Bball any day. http://www.viralhoops.com/michael-jordan-vs-oj-mayo/ http://allball.blogs.nba.com/2014/07/08/the-time-jim-jackson-talked-trash-to-michael-jordan/ http://www.businessinsider.com/craziest-michael-jordan-stories-2013-2?op=1 My favorite is when he talked shit Bill Clinton LOL. He practically destroyed Rodney McCray.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
