Welcome to the site!

Couple things at set-up to help with the driver and the long clubs.

- Bump the hips a few inches forward to create some axis tilt (green line)

- Turn both feet out

- Then on the backswing keep the left hip forward as you turn the hips, don't let the hips slide back. The hips sliding back on the backswing makes solid contact and swinging straight or OUTward harder to achieve.

Is this the right place for this?

I have noticed in my video analysis, I am lifting my back foot in the downswing and moving away from the "tush line", I think this is because I start my downswing with a hard core hip turn. Is this detrimental my game? ( I am still trying to consistently break 90)

Yeah, this is the place.

Here's the deal, though. See how far your clubhead is outside your hands? You're "early extending" (tush off the line) because the sweetspot is so far outside and the only way you have to get the sweetspot on the ball and not swinging WAY LEFT is to early extend.

Your backswing and/or transition needs work so the clubhead doesn't tip out so far.

Practicing last night, someone told me that I am squatting too much, and that I should stand up straighter in my stance to eliminate the hip thrust. I compared to V1 pictures of the pros and they all stand up much more, with closer to 155 - 160 degrees of flex (180 being straight up)

Thoughts?

First, your camera angle is poor. http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing

Second, .

Third… it's probably not your priority right now. @mvmac already gave you something to work on, right?

Fourth, I'm going to move these into your My Swing thread.

Yes please review my post earlier in this thread. Like @iacas said you have to early extend because of how far left the club is swinging. The hips sliding on the backswing contributes to the club getting out and swinging left on the downswing. Keep the hips centered and you'll have an easier time swinging out.

Saw a PGA coach last night, apparently I was keeping my right wrist locked in the backswing, having to over-rotate, and creating a steep pitched angle of attack and yada yada yada... I was hitting +/- 5 yards deviation from target line.. happy happy

I will post a video on my next practice

So we worked on two things, easy swing and using the wrist. I was trying to "create" power with a flat wrist which meant I had to rotate to about 120 degrees to get the club parallel, last night I was hitting 30% swing "power" using the wrist, no over-swing, so no hip sway or hip thrust. I was probably 5-8 yards shorter than I my max possible. I was hitting a 7 iron 145 carry dead straight.

Glad that you're getting instruction and all, but looking at your swing, there seems to be some other, more important stuff to work on.

In the top pic, you can see how much your head moves to the point you're not looking at the ball as well as your hips sliding back. Also notice the steepness of your shoulders... really should be more down at the ball at the top of the back swing.

Compare your pics to the ones below.

Like I said, glad you got a lesson; I'm just not sure you got steered in the right direction as there are other, more important things that will get you hitting the ball more solidly.

Yes, long term more important things to work on for sure. Unfortunately most instructors try to fix the cause and not the result. Reason Erik and I suggested what we did.

Right... This is why I stated that I was attempting to create force by rotating my torso 1.5 times over plane (120 degrees). By simply learning about cocking the right wrist, I now only have to turn 70-80 degrees to achieve parallel backswing, I get better ball flight, and similar distance. "Less is more" My grip was so tight (white knuckles) that I couldn't release as well. I was trying to swing a golf club attached to a 2x4, and swing with everything I could get. Feels much better now.

Regarding proper video posting: I just discover that my vacation camera (Nikon AW120 Underwater) has High Speed recording! it records at 120fps 640x480, so I will take out the tripod and repost some DL and FO videos.

Please take this post in the manner in which it is intended. Which is to say that it may or may not be slightly rude to your instructor (the PGA teaches next to nothing good about instruction, FWIW, which sucks but is true), but is not intended whatsoever to be rude to you at all.

Right... This is why I stated that I was attempting to create force by rotating my torso 1.5 times over plane (120 degrees). By simply learning about cocking the right wrist, I now only have to turn 70-80 degrees to achieve parallel backswing,

You weren't turning 120° before, nor were you failing to cock your wrist. Here's you versus Tiger Woods. Tiger's turned more, and yet still hasn't got the club back as far as you do. Your wrists are plenty cocked.

I think the point some other people were making is that even if those things you mentioned were problems (and I don't think they were anywhere near the top of the list), you had several other that were far more important to address.

Your shoulder turn is barely 90°. It's also super flat, you're looking 50° to the right and dead level at the top of your backswing, your hips have swayed, you come WAY the heck over the top from there… You have a few pretty big issues with your golf swing, and I'm not sure that "not cocking your wrists" and "turning less" crack the top 20.

I would seriously consider finding another instructor.

What reasons did he give you? What proof did he give you? Did he record high-speed video? Regular speed video?

Please do.
