Man that sucks! I mean, I'd never complain about a 1/2" birdie putt, but missing an ace by that much has to hurt.

I had one sitting on the lip just like yours.

About 8 years ago, I hit a 9 iron on 155 yds par 3.  The ball landed about 10 feet from the pin, then rolled towards the pin, which was in the shade.  I thought it had gone in, but it had stopped right on the lip.

Since than, I had two hole-in-ones.

I had one hanging on the lip like your years ago. Right behind the hole, so it must have been partly in at one time. Also had one fly in the hole and take a piece of the cup with it. That ball ricocheted off the green Never had a hole in one.

I've had one where my ball landed squarely in the hole, partially dislodged the pin, and then ricocheted out (it was a 230 yard par 3, so it had some speed going into the hole). The closest I've ever come though was a 9-iron that I spun back to the hole while taking a lesson, which then proceeded to do a complete horseshoe around the hole to end up 2" away.

Years ago, I hit a 9i into a short par 3, landed a foot past cup, and spun back 2" in front of cup- easy birdie.

For this season, I am to blame for your ball not going into the cup.

On July 31, I teed it up on a 166-yd. par 3, hit a 6i onto the front fringe, and watched it release 12 feet forward into the cup for a hole in one. The cosmic order only allows so many HOIs on 166-yd. par 3 holes, so I may have absorbed the last one for 2014. (Please forgive me).

Fear not, we're entitled to a HOI once every 50 years.

LOL that's brutal. Once in a tournament I had two shots spin back over the lip, all I could do was laugh at the second one. For me barely missing a HIO is always the most conflicting feeling in golf. I made one early in my golf career but I've yet to pull off another one

you name it, I've missed by however. Lip outs, horseshoes, pin knocks, Lip out going by in one direction up the hill only to have the ball roll back down the hill and lip out again (THAT one hurt). Any and all means have prevented me from getting the first one after 40+ years. I've holed more albatrosses on par 5's (5) than Aces.

That right there is a heartbreaker and makes you kind of hope for a heavy truck hitting a speed bump nearby to shake the ball into the hole.

it was a pretty calm day too, last year In tournament play I did the same, same course, different hole  that one hit and took a short hop and roll to the hole. I obviously got closest to pin beating out a guy at 6 inches.

The only fear I have in getting a hole in one is no witnesses while playing rounds by myself.

Just imagine if you was in a tournament with closest to pin on that hole and had to stick metal marker with the paper with name on it in that spot.Where would you actually stick it in without damaging the lip or if they used the ruler type, what would you write as the distance.

You couldn't get it any closer with out it dropping in. I put the heel of the putter down and ever so slowly touched it....and it fell in.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
