Teaching daughter to play

My daughter is right handed, and when she makes solid contact with the ball, she's hitting everything straight right, off line by quite a bit.

I don't know what to tell her, as far as getting her closer to being on line with her stance. She doesn't appear to me to be "blocking" the ball that way, as she is getting a good shift of her weight to her left side coming down.

I'd happily entertain some input on the subject.

Is she aimed that way? Body and/or club? I'd take her to the range and put a club down her toe line and down the outside the club and see where she is aimed. Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one.

FWIW, I'd try to get her some good professional instruction as quickly as possible.  This game is HARD....and a lot of people give up on it because they just don't see some modest success as quickly as they'd expect to.  It would be a shame to see that happen to an otherwise enthusiastic junior player!

Perhaps moving the ball more forward in her stance might help. If she is hitting the ball straight right, then the club face is square to the swing path of the club when it impacts the ball. By moving the ball a little forward, this would allow allow for the club to align more with her intended aim line, before impacting the ball. This is the first thing I would do since it is the easiest to try.

Other issues might be an excessive swaying to the right on the back swing. When she starts her down swing she over compensates with a sway back to the left which puts the ball too far back in her stance.

Also she might have a very flat swing. This could  be caused by not using a one piece take away. She maybe starting her back swing just using her hands, which would take her back swing to sharply to the inside.

Anything that forces the body too far right, past the ball, can cause a pushed shot.

The good thing is she has an inside to out swing path, which is what a golfer wants. Just need to adjust the impact position to hit the ball when the club face is square to the target line.

Impossible to tell without seeing her swing. I'd recommend that you video her.... Face-on and down-the-line, and post them here. There are some people here who are very good at swing analysis. Regardless, I still recommend lessons early on for any junior who shows interest/promise.

Agree with David here. But being that I use to hit blocks, and pushes to the right, even when I was squared up to my target, I did the fowling. On my down swing, at the impact  point, I was "holding" on, in other words, my left hand was on top of my left. What should happen is, your left hand (for rightys) should be facing the target at impact, and if you look down the line, your glove hand should almost disappear. So maybe have a look at that part of her swing. Then get her lessons...
