Yes the "Meet the Players". Seems like a few cocky hot heads on board this year.

So… exactly the types they're looking for. If they're hot and have boobs or nice legs that's a win too. :P

True but it's painful to watch bad golf when you are expecting talent. I don't know if I can do another season of 100 yard and under pitch shots...

Anybody watch last night?

My view of Anthony might be changing a tiny bit.  At first I thought he was a jerk.  Now I'm thinking that he's just young and immature and just mistakenly thinks he's supposed to be a jerk.  And my first reaction towards the "challenge" he issued to the girl was that it was completely idiotic.  In a game that is all about self-preservation, your number one goal should be to, at all costs, avoid elimination challenges.  You can't be eliminated if you aren't in the challenge, so keep your mouth shut and don't go trying to get eliminated.

However, in retrospect, I think it was (accidentally - I don't give him credit for being this calculating) really smart.  Take a small risk now, succeed (and he really succeeded), and now the next couple of times somebody has him as a choice for their elimination partner, I'm thinking they're going to be intimidated enough to look elsewhere.

Overall, I'm liking the level of golf in the very limited amount we've seen so far.  The worst golfer in the challenge last week left themselves with 11' for par, and the majority of them were within about 6' from 60-110 yards.  And this week from 115, the worst was 30'.  Certainly, that's not great, but when you consider that in recent past seasons we'd expect to see more than one person miss the green entirely on these challenges, I'm encouraged for the remainder of this season.

I think he's probably just a "jerk" that thinks he's better than he really is but he does appear to be quite a bit better than I thought he was. ;-)

Maybe "it ain't braggin' it you can back it up". We'll see.

I agree. Pretty good golf so far.

I agree. I don't think he's calculating to that extent. I think he's got a combination of arrogance (it seems he's won a lot of tournaments when he was younger) with an attitude that he's not there to make friends. I think that's because, in his mind, whether consciously or unconsciously, it's easier to beat someone if he hates them.

I think Anthony is a bit off. He is complaining about the girl from Austria? Is it? Pretty consistently like a kid who teases a girl he likes in grade school. Plus he seems a little immature albeit still a talented golfer.

Yeah, but she was being super over dramatic on the first competition of the second day. To be honest, I found it annoying, too. That said, isn't he like 18 or something?

19...I think his arrogance is gonna be his downfall in the grand scheme of the contest. I also find his swing to be unpleasant to my eyes.. :-P

If the other guys feel like it, they might be able to get into Anthony's head a little bit. I am just not sure it will be a benefit. He has golfed angry for a lot of years.

Katie has to be kicking herself nonstop after this. I like the challenges they had on this show. Much more imaginative than hitting 100 yard pitch shots.

I always feel a little bit better about my own game when I see pressure getting to golfers at this level.  Katie should have closed the deal when he drove the ball into the woods.  I don't like Anthony but thought it was interesting that after they critiqued him for taking the 8i shot from 100 yards that some adopted the strategy with their 2nd shot.  Anthony is definitely trying to play the heel on the show but he appears more socially awkward than committed to being a bad guy.

I thought the 8-iron challenge was a great idea- let each player choose their yardage, down to 90yds.  As long as they use that club. I thought the guys who used the 100yd shots would do better than they did.

They goofed a bit on that other short game challenge, where they were given a choice between a tough putt or a simple chip.  I think every player went with the chip, so maybe the setup was too lopsided. I think it was a long double-breaking putt that scared everyone off, but the chip looked short and uphill with no intimidation. It would've been more fun to see about half choose the putt, half choose the chip.

The flop-wall challenge results seemed a bit goofy. The end result was less about how you could pull off the shot, but nearly exclusively about how well you picked others to make their shot. I think if you just parked your butt on the "NO" bench and missed your own shot, you would've won that challenge by many points. Carolyn was near the top, and I know she missed her shot. I think the challenges need to focus more on the golf performance and then maybe subtly enhanced by picking how well others do.

But then again, Big Break isn't always about your golf game, but also how well you judge the players around you. Just a fun distraction and hard to take too seriously. Decent entertainment though so far, but the season is lacking something so far. Hard to pinpoint, but other than Anthony, there's not a lot of personality yet.

I agree here. I think the elimination challenges are a little lack luster for some reason. Maybe they need another hole. I think they should do a par five, four and three in no particular order. Plus it seems like everyone likes each other but doesn't like Anthony. I don't really like conflict but maybe it made for a good show.

Really surprised that a simple 8i chip (half swing) toss from 100 yards wasn't the go to decision in the challenge - I thought it was a good option.  But when that was chosen they missed off line weird  - Anthony's distance was perfect and I'm surprised his shots were pushed so far off.

Not disappointed as he needs to be a little less of a braggart, and as the 'role' he's chosen for himself is pretty objectionable - but he's just a kid and likely awkward - you can see him trying to befriend just one person at a time (normally Heavens) rather than be part of a larger group - likely just very introverted.  But if he's trying to be buddies with Heavens maybe he was treated poorly at the country club due to being hispanic and has a 'racial' chip on his shoulder....really just hard to tell other than the overall jerkiness.

For all the really good shots hit that first episode I was excited this crew might be much better players.  Really sad to see just overall very bad hitting this episode.

Hope they find a way to perform more like the first episode, maybe deal with the pressure of it better.

Katie was a local girl, lived just a few miles from our home - sad to see her go - she had a great attitude and always a big smile.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
