Are there pace of play issues in the UK as well? Seems like a way to make money selling results to data collection companies, advertisers, etc... This question: What type of golf course do you typically play at? Member club Proprietary (owned by a company) Pay and Play (turn up and pay to play) Resort (attached to a hotel or similar) Pay and Play? What is that, a euphemism for a muni? http://www.randa.org/en/RandA/News/News/2014/October/Pace-of-play-survey.aspx

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

No, just a daily fee facility.

I wrote this in later:

I'm pretty happy with my pace of play, and typically, I only play when the course is reasonably empty so I can zip around. I've played 18, alone, in under 2:00.

I think it's just all the little things that people do wrong that affect speed of play. They play the wrong tees. Don't drop their friend off and get to their ball and get their yardage. They read putts too long. They have exaggerated, long pre-shot routines. They walk all over a bunker looking for a rake. They mark a two-footer. They don't play ready golf. They don't watch their balls closely enough so that they can find it quickly. They take too long at the turn. They put their headcover on their driver standing at the back of the cart instead of hopping in and putting it away when they arrive at their tee shot. They have to get a yardage despite their playing partner getting a yardage four yards away from them. They park their cart on the wrong side of the green and have to walk around. They leave their wedge in the wrong spot.

It's death by a thousand cuts.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
