I just had an unexpected surgery, a pacemaker implant, and no lifting or heavy exertion of my left arm for 90 days per the Dr, it is an unusual case as I have a highly unusual heart anatomy, and I can't risk pulling the lead before it sets properly.  If I was still spending winters in Vermont, this would not be an issue, but I, just this year, just this month, began spending winters in Florida.

I know I am not a true golfer from the other thread, but I was thinking I could practice putting, starting in a couple of days, I could pass the time more agreeably. The major problem I seem to have putting is with pace. I thought I was OK, but when I got to Florida, the first course I played was like putting on a hardwood floor, it was so fast. Six feet past on the first putt, six feet past coming back, miss by a mile the third attempt and pick up.

Any suggestions for books, links, etc, that have helped your putting would be appreciated.

Seeing as how you're in northern Vermont...I'm not exactly sure how the weather is year round, but I'd assume courses might be closing up next month anyway? At least you didn't have this surgery during the summer!

Listen to your doctor, but if you can practice short chipping and pitching on a nearby public facility along with putting it could really improve your game when you come back.  Most of all take care of yourself and feel better.

Wow, I clearly didn't read your entire post, lol.

Being in Florida and not playing golf would certainly be depressing :-(

Would small chips and pitches be considered heavy lifting or exertions? If not, it sounds like an excellent opportunity to sharpen your short game at the same time as putting (chip then putt out). For me I always felt it worked better to distinctly think of rolling the ball instead of hitting the putt on fast greens. It probably had something to do with the acceleration thread linked earlier.

But now you have a pacemaker so all solved right? ...sorry bad joke.

Seriously now it sounds like you just need to learn to refine your touch on these new fast greens, everyones learning curve is different so just be patient with yourself, when I first started playing the course I play regularly 3 years ago it was basically the same thing and the greens were just killing me every day. I still have bad days but they are becoming less and less, you may even want to consider getting a new putter since your so used to putting slower greens with your current one maybe a fresh start with a different one may help.
Just got a new graphite adams idea set. Anybody out there got some advice on this set
And now for something completely different.... Moppy, welcome to Florida. I live in west centrl Florida (west of Tampa). Where are you at? Oh and I'd practice my bingo skills for a while and wouldn't push it with the pacemaker.

Moppy hope yours is a quick and uneventful recovery. I am up the road in Jupiter. Had two bouts of no golf, or anything else for that matter: heart attack in June 2012 and rotator cuff surgery last October. The surgery was the "killer" as it was 5 months before I could play. That said, 3 weeks after surgery doc said to practice putting, then about 3 weeks later, practice chipping. Then about 3 months, start swinging a club slowly building up to speed, with no ball. When he said I was cleared for holf, he said hit the range at least 3 times before playing. Got that done in 3 days and played 18 on the fourth. Just do what the doc says, be careful, take it easy, time will pass fast enough and you will be back out. Good luck!!

Best regards,  Frank
