From Golf Digest:

http://www.golfdigest.com/blogs/the-loop/2014/10/weird-golf-news-of-the-week-fl.html

Hopefully we won't see @billchao or @JetFan1983 riding around in new spiffy golf carts in their neighborhood!

Weird golf news of the week: Fleet of golf carts stolen from private club

By Alex Myers

Golf carts get stolen all the time, but they're usually abandoned after being used for late-night, alcohol-influenced joy rides that wreak havoc on golf courses. Not this time.

Related: More weird golf news

According to NJ.com, eight golf carts were stolen from the Hollywood Golf Course, a private club in Ocean Township, N.J. Police say the gas-powered Club Car carts were taken sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The report says the thieves, who have yet to be caught, cut a hole in a chain-link fence on a dead end street. Police believe the carts were then loaded onto a trailer.

That certainly makes sense. A clean getaway on eight separate carts, particularly ones that run on gas, would have been a bit tricky.

This is the course I work at. The course was closed for aerification so nobody was around and I believe most of the houses on that street are summer homes. Whoever pulled it off must have had some inside knowledge as the exit point was not obvious and they had their own club car keys.

Pfffft. Gas powered carts? [Nose up in the air] Not even worth stealing. I only drive battery powered carts.

They lock up the nicer electric carts in the cart barn and they like to get them in early. When I play after work I use the gas carts. But now I'm sure they'll start locking those up early and I'll be stuck carrying my bag (No pull carts allowed) which won't seem so great after being on my feet all day.

My first question is why? Second is how about push carts?

Pull/push carts aren't allowed at a lot of the nicer clubs, I can only assume that it is so members spend extra on electric carts and caddies. Which doesn't make a lot of sense for an equity club so I assume there is a bit of a stigma as well.

Why are the carts silver? They just ordered them that way?

Yeah why not? I've seen blue, gold, silver, green of course, white of course, black (better on northern course), red (rare, though some burgundy carts are out there), etc.

I'm trying deflect the thread away from becoming a rathole about push/pull carts.:-)

Whereupon I looked margin left and saw, "Location: NJ" :-(

Yeah, let's keep it to a rathole about power carts!

    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
