I'm getting pretty sick and tired of NBC's non-HD cameras in their HD broadcasts. I think only the tower cameras are HD and the occasional slow-mo cameras. All the other on-course ones are SD which, when shoved over an HD signal, look like absolute CRAP.

I agree with you there. I was at a friends house a couple weekends back and noticed the same thing. They need to go ahead and make all of the cameras HD. It was extremely annoying.

CBS sure has better coverage all around, from its full HD to its announcers. NBC could take a lesson from them to see what golf on TV could be.

Noticed that too. And as I'm watching the Patriots play SD I have the same complaint - this is not HD. C'mon NBC, get with it!

You think that's bad - try watching LPGA coverage in HD. Most of the time it looks like some 12 year old kid shot it w/ his cell phone.

When is the LPGA ever shown in HD?

I picked up a brand new Samsung HD tv this spring and I was so pissed when that happened. You get a great picture when they teeing off then their approach is thrown in standard!!!!!!! i almost threw the remote at the TV then had to restrain myself

I'm so glad others noticed this and are annoyed as well. Couple the constant switch from HD to SD with Johnny Miller's obnoxious commentary and you have an almost unwatchable golf tournament. I would almost have preferred that NBC not tease the viewers with an occasional HD shot and just broadcast the whole tournament in SD (almost). It makes me long for CBS' all HD coverage along with Feherty and McCord.

I just got my DTV-HD receiver set-up last night and all I can say is WOW!

Universal HD was re-broadcasting the tourney and I can see the huge differences between the cameras. Before last night I thought you guys were bitching 'bout nothing! ;)

Even more noticeable was on Sportcenter last night when the did a slpit screen of the in-studio anchor and Kirk Herbstreit. The in-studio cam was glorious HD and the Kirk cam was SD........it was shameful.
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

It's on the golf channel which is an HD channel. It looks far worse than just a regular SD channel IMO.

The Golf Channel is not an HD Channel, at least not on DirecTV, and I've never heard of them bragging about being HD, which most channels do when they get to HD.

The Golf Channel is broadcast in HD in some markets. It tends to be paired with the HD feed of Versus in a time sharing arrangement.

The golf channel is in HD if your provider picks up the HD feed of it.

As others have said, it's HD on some cable networks, mostly. It'll be HD on DirecTV shortly, too. It was in fact supposed to be TODAY, but they're now saying by the end of the month or so, with some other channels coming in closer to the end of the year.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
