Mike and I are putting together a holiday gift guide this year and we have a bunch of categories.

What we'd like from all of you is suggestions in each (or as many as possible) of the categories listed below.

They are:

Drivers (3)

Fairway Woods/Hybrids (3)

Irons (3)

Wedges (2)

Putters (2)

Apparel (3)

Bags (2)

Carts (2)

Laser/GPS (2)

Accessories (5)

Media - Books/DVDs/etc. (3)

Copy the list above and provide your top two or three choices for each.

You don't have to explain any of your choices, but if you want to, that's a bonus. The items can be stuff you've used for the past few months or things which YOU would like to get in the next year (like, for example, the Titleist 915D2 - maybe you haven't hit it yet but you want it - add it to your list!).

This guide will help golfers and be published in TWO WEEKS. If you leave comments, we may add them to the final article and give you credit of course.

Anyone who contributes to this with a good list of suggestions will earn this badge:

P.S. You don't have to fill in ALL the categories. Just list a few off the top of your head.

Drivers (3)

1) Titleist 915D2 10.5 degrees - I am a big fan of the Titleist drivers in the past. The new look with the new tech has me wanting this driver. Especially now that they are going to a lower spin model ball flight.

2) Cobra FLY-Z+ - The ability to shift the CG from front to back as well as the new groove on the clubface. Throw in that their previous two models have had good reviews. Cobra has been on the up trend with their drivers. I wouldn't mind having this club.

Fairway Woods/Hybrids (3)

1) Titleist 915F 15 degrees - Always liked their fairway woods. I currently have their 910 model. I would like the upgrade.

2) Titleist 915H 18 degrees - I do need an upgrade on the hybrids. I liked their 910 and 913 when I demoed them in the past few years. I would probably like their 915 model.

Irons (3)

1) Mizuno MP-15 (4 iron to PW, KBS Tour Stiff) - I currently own the MP-59 and love them. So the next gen for this iron is definitelyΒ on my want list. They are just pretty!

2) Mizuno JPX-850 Forged (4 iron to GW, KBS Tour Stiff) - This one is designed for my handicap range, has that classic iron look but the tech to help out when I need it. Β The use of Boron in the clubmaking has me interested. Just a lot of tech put into a club that fits my handicap range, it makes me really want these irons.

Wedges (2)

Edel wedges - What can I say, I am a convert to the Edel Family. Can't beat the custom fitting and the quality of the club. Wouldn't mind a back up set of wedges.

Putters (2)

Edel Putter - I will never go back to an off the shelf putter again. you just can't beat the quality of the putter with the top of the line fitting process from Edel. I know I already have one, but still you always need a back up right.

Apparel (3)

Footjoy Dryjoy's Tour Rain Gear (Large) - I don't own a set of good Β rain gear. I heard good reviews on this one. Would be nice to have a good quality rain gear set.

Bags (2)

Mizuno Aerolite 029 - Heard some good reviews on it, I tend to wear through bags quickly playing a lot of golf. Wouldn't mind having a back up bag. I am pretty sure I will need a new one by the end of next season.

Carts (2)

Hover Cart - The one Bubba Watson was shown driving, yea one of those :)

Laser/GPS (2)

Accessories (5)

GolfSense - Looks cool. You get to track how the hands and club move in the swing. I would be very interested in having this.

Swing Caddie SC100 - Portable launch monitor at an affordableΒ price, count me in!

BreakMaster - Would be nice to have for the putting green when practicing. I saw a few of them being used before and they look very nifty.

Media - Books/DVDs/etc. (3)

Drivers -

Wilson Staff D200 - looks pretty cool and initial reviews are it's sweet

Callaway Big Bertha V is supposed to be long and forgiving

Cobra Golf Fly-z driver -adjustable CG, good looks

Fairway Woods/Hybrids -

Cobra Golf Fly-z woods to go along with the driver

Irons -

TaylorMade RSI - new irons in different levels for golfers of all abilities from 0 handicap to 36 handicap

Bridgestone J15's - lots of people anticipating these

Wedges -

Cleveland CG-16 Black Pearl SW has a place in my bag and I really like it

Hopkins wedges - would like to try but they only come in right hand clubs

Putters -

Bags -

Can't provide a recommendation. Too many choices overwhelm me

Carts -

I'm really wanting a ClicGear 3.5

Nothing to suggest here

Snake Eyes golf balls. I'm finding them to be pretty good

Monsta Golf Balls - good customer service, low price for a premium ball (compared to a Titleist Pro V1x)

Wilson Elite 50 golf balls - low compression, low price. I like them.

Media - Books/DVDs/etc. -

Lowest Score Wins - lots of good info in it from what I'm hearing.

Drivers

  • Ping G30 SF Tec -Β Great driver for those who struggle toΒ keep their drives on the fairway.Β  SFΒ Tec drivers use weight concentrated toward the heel to help steer the ball back to the fairway.
  • Cobra BIO Cell+ - one of the mostΒ positively reviewed drivers out there but golfers with different swing speeds.Β  Adjustability and forgiveness are key features but almost everyone agrees it's one of the longest drivers out there too.

Fairway Woods/Hybrids

  • Callaway X2 Hot Deep - great for high handicappers who are willing to give up a little distance on their drives in exchange forΒ keeping it in the fairway.Β  While not the easiest fairway wood to hit off the turf, it isn't the worst either.Β  Great club to have if you have room in your bag for those days when your driver just doesn't want to cooperate.
  • Titleist 915F - the 913 was long and forgiving and I'd expect the 915F to be even better.Β  At only $30 more than the 913, it's worth to upgrade to the latest technology.

Irons

  • High Handicapper - Mizuno JPX-850 - I have owned numerous iron sets but I always come back to the JPX-825's.Β  They are forgiving and even the longer irons are easier to get in the air.Β  I've demo's the 850's and found them to be even nicer than the 825's though as my game improves I'm leaning towards the JPX-850 Forged
  • Mid Handicapper - Mizuno JPX-850 Forged - They have everything I liked about my JPX-825's but look, sounds and feel better.Β  Designed for mid handicappers they are a bit less forgiving than the 825's but will allow for tighter shot dispersion as your swing improves.

Wedges

  • Titleist Vokey SM5 - As a lefty, wedge choices are usually limited but Vokey offered a wide range of different lofts and bounce when they released the SM5.Β  The K grinds are awesome for spring / fall golf when the ground is wet and you need some extra bounce to keep the club from digging too much.
  • Hopkins Golf - a unique company that has optimized the customer experience on the web.Β  Hopkins offers the ability to customize your wedge in every possible way, finish, shaft, loft, length, grind, grips, ferrule colorΒ and even personalization at a very competitive price.

Putters

  • Scotty Cameron Futura X Dual Balance - I use the 38" and love the feel.Β  Short putts become automatic and with the ability to adjust the weights in the head you can adjust the putter feel to your own preference.
  • Odyssey Tank Cruiser #7 - The #7 one of Odyssey's most popular putters and in the Tank Cruiser line you not only get the popular #7 head but also the ability to adjust the weight in the head and the putter handle.Β  This putter has come close to kicking the SC out of my bag numerous times and at almost half the price of the SC it is a great value.

Apparel

  • Oakley Carbon Pro 2 Golf Shoes - great looking waterproof shoes.Β  I was a bit concerned the lack of wide widths would be an issue but they fit me great and my feetΒ feel good and areΒ blister free after every round

Bags

  • Ogio Chamber 2014 - best bag I've ever owned.Β  It's held up great all season and I never have to worry about damage to my clubs due to bag chatter thanks to the Silencer technology.Β  Ogio Silencer technology is placed in each of the 14 slots and holds each club in place tight so they do not more around, in fact you can even hold the bag upside down and they clubs won't fall out.Β  The bag also has plenty of pockets for all your stuff and an easy access ball well.

Laser/GPS

  • Leupold GX-4i2Β - USGA approved for use in tournaments but has the ability to offer slope and recommend club selections during practice rounds.Β  Accurate and easy to get distances to flags or objects.

Media - Books/DVDs/etc.

  • Lowest Score Wins - a comprehensive book that teaches you the right approach and strategy to achieve lower scores and backs up it with science and facts.Β  The kind of book you want to read multiple times because it's easy to read and you findΒ new nuggets that you missed previously.

Driver -

Ping G30 SF Tec. As a Phoenix native, I like to support local businesses whenever possible. Plus, they make sweet equipment. Love what I've read about the technology. I've used a G15 for years now.

Titleist 915 D2. I demoedΒ a 914 and 913Β recently andΒ they felt awesome. I've never played Titleist clubs before, and this thing was sweet. The Diamana shaft really felt stable. Beautiful.I can imagine the 915 is better.

Fairway Woods -

No comment. My RBz Stage 2 is a keeper. I have no complaints about it except its lack of adjustability.

Hybrids -

Titleist 915H 18 degree. Hit a 913 and was unfortunately longer and straighter than the Ping G25 because I have a soft spot for Ping.

Adams XTD Ti hybrid. This thing just looks snazzy. Speed pocket on bottom, top, hottest Adams face ever, lots of adjustability, looks pretty... I've heard so much about Adams hybrids, and it's about $100 less than the other big names.

Irons -

Mizuno MP4 - Love Mizunos, and after reading the recent review on TST, I want these.

Nike Vapor Pro Combos - Like the look, and I enjoyed the VR Pro Combos.

Ping S55 - Like buttah. The feel of a pure hit is literally vibrationless. They may not be super long, but who cares when you have an out of body experience while hitting one well.

Bonus - Any Miura set. A $2000 off-the-rack set of clubs would be nice.

Wedges -

Vokey SM5 M grind (50,55,60). I've been told to let go of a 60 degree, but I can't do it. These things are awesome.

Edel. It would be wrong not to include these on TST! They do sound great, though.

Putter -

Like my fitted Nike Method Core. I'd take a Scotty Cameron to show off, I guess, though.

Apparel-

Like the look of the FootjoyΒ DNA shoes with red trim. Look comfy too.

Ashworth maroon pants. Ashworth white polo.

A couple of solid, loud Footjoy polos. I have a pink one now and it's a regular on dress down Fridays.

Bag-

Ogio Chamber 2014. Someone above beat me to it, but the 14 slots, well-placed pockets, and snazzy look make me drool at Golfsmith. I guess the silencer technology works, too.

Titleist 913 series woods! The prices have dropped dramatically, they are great quality and I'm told there's not much difference performance wise to the new 915 series! Galvin green waterproofs! Absolutely superb! But they are pricey so you would have to really like the person you bought these for! Titleist staydry cart bag! I got one of these recently and they are 100% waterproof, lightweight and very cleverly designed! Also Cost less than sun mountain and ogio's finest offerings!

Drivers (3)

- Taylormade SLDR or any of the low-spinning drivers. Β My drives appear to balloon quite a bit, so I would really like to try one of these out.

Irons (3)

-The new Big Bertha Irons from Callaway. Β You know the ones that will give you 20 more yards... Β I would really like to try these out. Β I am not consistent enough to hit the sweet spot often, so it would be interesting to see if these would add length and make me more consistent.

Bags (2)

- Ogio, anything with the Woode organizing system. Β I have used one of these bags for around 3-4 years now. Β Not only has it held up, I really like how the organizing system works.

Laser/GPS (2)

-I have never used a laser, and once used a GPS (it was provided by the course). Β I don't think it is necessary for 95% of my rounds because I play the same course pretty much all the time, but it certainly seems like it could save time.

Apparel

- True Linkswear shoes. Β I have had a pair of these since the spring. Β I actually have them on right now. Β Can't say enough about them. Β They are easily the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned.

Drivers (3)

SLDR. Few would look unfavorably upon receiving the most publicized driver of the past year and a half.

Fairway Woods/Hybrids (3)

Taylormade's Mini-Driver is a great product for the many folks who struggle with hitting driver

Irons (3)

Callaway Big Bertha Irons. I mean, if you're buying a gift, don't buy someone clubs that are two clubs shorter than what they could be.

Taylormade Speedblade Irons. I do adore the one I've been able to try when they sent me the 6 iron to try. It is verily longer than the 5 iron in my set and easier to hit.

Wedges (2)

Putters (2)

Odyssey's Metal-X line is really terrific, especially their Rossie-style. I love the feel and look of it.

Apparel (3)

Callaway shirts are wonderful.

Buying tip for non-golfers buying pants: the pricier ones that have a gel strip on the inside that keeps the shirt from moving around and untucking is very helpful and a worthy feature to pay for

Bags (2)

Carts (2)

Caddytek's Caddycruiser ONE line is of extremely good quality and value.

Laser/GPS (2)

The Garmin G3 GPS device. It recently has dropped into the low $100 range and is great as a cheap entry-level GPS device that still is very good quality. It uses replaceable batteries, so if you forget to charge it, you're not out of luck waiting 3-4 hours for the unit to charge before going golfing

Accessories (5)

Game Golf seems like an obvious one here (forgive me if it might be better put into the GPS category) It's all the rage this year and the price is dropping.

Media - Books/DVDs/etc. (3)

Secrets of the Short Game DVD from Phil Mickelson. I've found the way he explains the concepts to be extremely intuitive and easy to learn. I've passed it along to friends who have also experienced success with it

The Swing Plane Perfector - Because not everyone has access to a grass range all the time and so can just stick an alignment stick in the ground. Plus you can adjust this at a more granular level.

Smart Ball Swing Trainer - I already have a 3/4 soccer ball, but this has a string attached so you never have to pick it up if you drop it.

Callaway Foam practice balls - Because I keep losing them.

Rukket Pop-Up SKEE-GOLF Chipping Target - This is kind of hokey and smaller than I'd like, but good enough.
