What Would You Give To Hit It 40 Yards Further?

Good example was Tim Clark, and Bubba at the tourney in China. Bubba was hitting wedge into the par 4, when poor ole Time was hitting long irons, or even a hybrid..I'm sure Tim would love to have an extra 40 yds.

what would I do for 40 more yards?  Play a forward tee box and enjoy the game more.

This reminds of my last Saturday rounds (18, and additional 14 holes before it got really dark).   Scored 103 playing blue tee in the 1st round.  Got mad, moved up a tee, played again, and scored 90 (18 hole equivalent score) - a 13 stroke improvement.

I would dip my driver in bat guano and perform satanic incantations.

But I think you are right.  I moved a few months ago and I went from playing a 6500 yard course to a 6200 yard course (it has longer tees but the gap is up to 6800 which is too long for me).  And I moved up about 1500 feet in elevation (as an aside, can anyone quantify how much that elevation change should affect a drive, percentage-wise?)

It is sure nice to be hitting wedges and short irons into some of the greens for a change.  I'm totally sold on the benefits of moving up.  My ego is not involved in my golf game (i.e., I know I suck) and I know that the 88 I shoot now is not as good a an 88 I might have shot at the old course.  But it was just as much fun and for me that is what counts.

I'd consider retiring from work so I could play golf everyday.

Question for you @mvmac , do you think that Bubba will be as good at 45 years old as David Toms was? I just wonder if Bubba can maintain his swing at 45 with the way that he swings at the ball. David's swing is classical and can be maintained well until 45 and likely a successful career upcoming on the senior tour.

Nothing....It would do me no good to hit it further.  How about if I could increase my accuracy with 100 yards by 50%, now that would help me....

If you play the same courses and the same tees, but hit it 40 yards further with the driver, and an equivalent amount with each successive club, you wouldn't even have those 100 yard shots!

Let my shoulder heal properly instead of playing practice rounds? Key 2 will get me 10 yards with irons and ??? with my driver. I pretty much had 2 killer rounds until I pulled a muscle.

40 yards with a driver is huge.

At age 64, what I did to gain yardage this year was move up to the senior tees at my local club. The difference is about 540 yards, or about 30 yards per hole.

My last 5 scores from the white tees were 80, 80, 78, 81, 79 for 398. My last 5 scores from the blue tees were 83, 83, 80, 81, 82 for 409. Basically, the difference was two shots per round. Now that doesn't seems like a lot, but I agree with turtleback , "It is sure nice to be hitting wedges and short irons into some of the greens for a change.  I'm totally sold on the benefits of moving up."

Also, what isn't reflected in the scores above, is when I played senior tees at courses other than my club I have been able to go low (for me) and shoot scores of 73, 74 and 76. The 74 included an eagle where I reached the green of a par 5 in two shots and sunk the putt, and I haven't done that in 15 years.

Now, if I could actually gain 40 yards with my driver, it isn't what I would do, it's what my golfing buddies would do, (demand that I take a drug test).
