Hey everybody, I am looking into a new set of clubs.  I am 38 and a 9 index.  I hit the ball REEEAAAALLLY high with all my clubs and would like a lower trajectory.  I hit it pretty far for an amatuer so distance help isnt a requirement.  (7 iron about 175 carry flat to flat)  Trying to get some advice from others who have recently switched as to what to look at.  I currently have a Titlest 695 mb 4-PW, 52, 54, 58 degree Vokey wedges.  21 titlest hybird, 15 Titlest 3 wood, and 10.5 degree Taylor Made R9 driver.  All standard length and loft, and all stiff shafts, graphite in woods and hybird, steel in irons (dynamic gold true temper, I think.)  Also I wouldnt trade my putter for anything.  Talk to me people.

Since trajectory is a big concern and everything you have is standard, I would get fitted for the correct shaft(s) first and foremost. I'm guessing you can play well with whatever club heads you're comfortable with given you're a 9 index. Also, four wedges in your set makes sense since you're a long hitter.

I recently switched from the TaylorMade Tour Preferreds (2008 version) to the 714 AP2s and am happy with them. Got a great deal from my fitter and didn't need, or ultimately want, to shell out for Mizunos. I've stayed away from TaylorMade since purchasing my first set since they release new stuff every six months.

Exercise Patience.

All the OEM's and Custom Makers (i.e., Edel) make fine equipment

Demo.

Find equipment you love to twirl in your hands, love the feel off the face and the sound.

Find out if it performs for you

Get fit for it.

Ping G400 Max 9/TPT Shaft, TEE EX10 Beta 4, 5 wd, PXG 22 HY, Mizuno JPX919F 5-GW, TItleist SM7 Raw 55-09, 59-11, Bettinardi BB39

Good start. Probably stay with GI and Player's cavity for clubheads.

Exercise Patience. ... Demo. .. Get fit for it.

If you're hitting the ball high, you might test some shafts with a high kickpoint (flexes higher on the shaft to keep shots low.) In your irons, you might try KBS C-Taper or Project X. (PX is technically a flighted shaft, but if you get the right flex it might work for you.)

You could do some pre-screening on the GolfWorks site, or a GolfWorks catalog. This shaft selection tool http://www.ralphmaltby.com/265 gives the golfer a 4-digit code to help select a shaft band (a category of shafts which have similar properties).

From your description, you might want something in the 4B 1 M or 5B 1 M category (1 = low trajectory)

Focus, connect and follow through!

All great suggestions. I might add that different balls have different flight patterns. Do some research on ball types too.

I hit it super high myself and made every effort to get my clubs set up to hit it lower... It just didn't happen. It's in your swing. The only club I managed to lower was the driver via loft and shaft. You might have to accept it or try to change your swing.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
