I've been Playing Golf for: A little over a year

My current handicap index or average score is: 90's (With mulligans  )

My typical ball flight is: High and Straight

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Hitting it WAY left. It is not a hook, but instead a straight ball flight to the left. I feel like my swing plane is incorrect also.

Hi @WParr , welcome to the site. One thing I want to point out is how little the hips turn on the backswing. Compare address to the top of the backswing, lower body looks pretty similar. When the lower body is "restricted" it can lead to the player swinging left. So your pulls are from your face and path being oriented left.

Here's how I would recommend changing things. You'll be able to create more depth with your arms and pivot, help you start swinging outward/less across the ball.

Hello mvmac,

Thanks for the video and reply! I really appreciate it. However, I have always been told to keep my head still when swinging. I noticed in the video there is more head movement on the right when compared to the left.

So my question is: Is the head movement shown in the video okay? Or should I try to keep away from that.

Thanks!

Yes, we agree you should keep your head steady, reason it's Key #1 ;-)

In terms of the video with @iacas , the amount that he's turned is exaggerated to prove a point. We're not saying you have to look exactly like the right picture. It's to demonstrate how turning the feet out helps the golfer turn their hips more.

Erik's head isn't moving back to his right, just put your finger or cursor on his head. You may be mistaking the amount his head is rotated for "head movement", he's turned almost 140 degrees, his head is going to be turned more than it normally is.
