The Euros must really not like Faldo, he did apologize for his comments and what he said wasn't all that bad. And come on, these guys are defending Sergio? He's one of the biggest douches on tour :-P

Quote:

But Sam Torrance, captain of the victorious 2002 European Team, isn't forgetting so easily. In an interview with Bunkered magazine, Torrance ripped into Faldo for his remarks, calling the six-time major champion an "a***hole."

A selection from the story:
"To say that right in the middle of the Ryder Cup, what was the a***hole thinking about? The reaction in the team room was magnificent. The guys rallied round Garcia. [But] really, it was pathetic from Faldo. I’ve no idea where he was coming from with that stuff. You can even quote me on that, I don’t care. He’s an a***hole. It was beyond belief that one of our greatest-ever players would come out with a comment like that. Garcia’s not a team player? Have a look in the mirror, pal."
Torrance went on to speculate that Faldo was perhaps ‘just trying to be controversial’, adding: “Or trying to be controversial. Remember the ‘I’d like to thank the press from the heart of my bottom’ speech? He just opens his mouth to change feet.”

Anybody ever consider that perhaps Faldo is the biggest team player ever and that this was a calculated piece of genius ... a la Herb Brooks in 1980 with the US Hockey team?  Give all of the players a common enemy (himself) and they won't spend any time disliking each other and will bond.

I like Faldo, but I also kinda like Poulter too so I guess that disqualifies me...

...I also root for Team Europe...

...sorry...

Faldo, the outstanding British golfer of his generation, who won six majors.

But then, to be fair to Sam Torrance, he once did really well on an episode of A Question of Sport .

So both men have enjoyed their respective successes during their careers...

Seriously, why drag this up again, now? OK, we get it, Faldo is unloved by his European contemporaries - especially his own countrymen. He was still a remarkable golfer and appears to be doing well in his new role as a broadcaster.

To your point, I think Faldo has won more points than anyone in Euro Ryder Cup history. Him or Monty. Sergio managed to beat Furyk this year in singles to improve his singles record to 3-4, but Furyk loses more Ryder Cup matches than anyone in history. Sergio has a better team record, but maybe his top flight partners like Rory and Westwood played a part in that.

Torrance is completely off base and incorrect. As everyone knows, the proper term for Nick is "Sir A**hole". Torrance needs to show the proper respect the Queen has bestowed upon him.

Mabye Sam is striking the next blow for Scottish independence.

Good for Mr. Torrance.

I'll second that. Torrance has always seemed like a stand-up dude who you'd like to have on your list of friends.

Faldo ... not so much. Or in most cases, not at all. Tremendous golfer, for sure, but he's provided very little evidence of being a decent human being.

I was never much of a Faldo fan when he played. I'm even less a fan of his broadcasting skills. He never seems to finish his sentences and it sound like his mouth is full of mashed potatoes. Other than that I guess he's ok.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
