I'm not asking for help, but it is more of a funny rant.  I bought some Mac Weldon underwear after seeing an ad pop up on the sidebar on this site.  They weren't good and I did write a review in the Equipment section.  I did not rate them high.

Now the Mac Weldon ads follow me like an annoying mosquito.  Everywhere I go it shows up, Facebook, Google searches, all the golf sites I go to looking for news.  Yesterday we were helping my goddaughter with an essay on A Tale of Two Cities .  My wife printed out a reference page and had to say, "Just ignore the underwear ad".  It's like it knows I panned it. :-P

Can I get a restraining order?

I've started noticing it myself. I google looking for a microphone and headset, Google Ads tells me about microphones and headsets for weeks. Not talking about TST specifically btw.

They've probably got filters that avoid certain items from being used, but I still don't like it. I really don't need Google to tell me what I'm currently searching for. So I went here and opted out: http://www.google.com/settings/ads

That only goes for Google, there may be other engines doing the same thing, but it is my impression that Google is the largest.

Yes, that's what happens. The thing about that, to me, is: would I rather see targeted ads (i.e. ads for stuff I have some relationship with) or would I rather see ads for, I don't know, a car I don't care about or feminine products or something?

Targeted ads are fine, IMO, but sometimes they can be annoying, like when I'm shopping for a gift for my wife and all of a sudden all the ads are of similar products. Way to let the cat out of the bag, internet.

So are we talking Victoria Secret ads then Bill?

Happens all the time on my FB page. I have found the best thing to do is ignore them. (I am very good at ignoring stuff)  That, or visit another site you don't mind getting advertisements from. Either way, the bad ones usually disappear.  I like visiting Bass Pro Shops quite a bit, and don't mind their advertisements.

So why do I keep seeing ads for impotence medicines?

Perhaps you clicked on the Senior/Champions tour?

I've never had a Google ad that led me to something useful. They usually show up after I'm done looking and often advertise stores I've already looked at. I care as little about feminine products as I do about the other stuff I get, so I don't mind. If it's for products I have no interest in, it's easier to ignore them. When the ads are "relevant" and something I've been looking at recently, I spent a bit more time looking at them.

Funny follow up:

I was going through the site today and the Mac Weldon underwear ad was in the top right corner.  Below it were a bunch of reviews from this site including the one I wrote for Mac Weldon with 1 star!

I was helping my stepdaughter a couple months ago with part of her resume and I had to search for the name of an educational travel program to China that we enrolled her in a couple years ago. I tried lots of searches as the names came back to me... travel... nursing... education abroad...global nursing... envision... ah yes, "envision global forum."  That's it.

We finished the resume, and I thought nothing of it. Now I see these ads on nearly every web page I visit on my phone! For months now! Google really really wants me to sign up for another overseas nursing program!

I have another problem on my phone that often happens when browsing TST. I get automatically rerouted to some spam-like web page on fitness or diet or whatever.  I am definitely not clicking anything- it's during the page load that I get transferred. It's always a new window that I just close to return back here. From what I've read, it's possible my Verizon Fios router is the culprit and it is randomly redirecting traffic. It does seem to mostly happen when I'm home, rather than out, but I know it has happened while out as well.  They say I need to factory-reset the router in case it has been affected by whatever malware would cause that (thank goodness it's just relatively harmless I suppose).  Anyone else get auto-redirected to advertisement sites when browsing here on their phone? Just me?

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
