I've learned golf the hard way, by reading, watching and playing, but I'm gonna try a different approach next year! My club has a lesson deal on, 10 x 30min lessons for £100! And I'm about to purchase "game golf" So... I'm planning on having a lesson every month and work on whatever game golf is telling me I suck at each month! I'm currently a 17hc, and I'm not one for setting targets, but I'm kinda hoping I can knock 5shots off that by the end of 2015! Wish me luck!.. I'll need it!

Good luck.. May I suggest that you work on your driver until you are able to consistently hit it in proximity of where you are aiming? This is because driving has the highest sv and if you are able to improve it you will be able to drop your score to a lower bracket in no time!

Good luck with that!

I go to a drop in session every Saturday morning (it falls handy in between dropping the kids off and picking them up again!). Get about 100 range balls and 5 or 10 mins (depends how many turn up) with the pro each week for 7.50. I like it. My target is to be consistently below 90 in the spring, and try to get down to around 85 on a regular basis by the end of the year. My swing is definitely improving, just need to put it into practice on the course...

Thanks Abu, I'd say my driving is the strongest part of my game, be interesting to see if game golf agrees! I would say 10/14 drives end up close to where I want them, and the others are rarely unplayable! I'd say it's my approach shots that need improving, and my short game, but again, I'm excited to see if game golf agrees with me!

I would be cautious. The Google tells me that 100 pounds is about $155. That is five hours for $155 or $30/hour. Usually that means there is a very raw/new or poor instructor. For $155 you could probably spend money in better ways to shoot lower scores. Have you looked into the book or online instruction the proprietors of this site offer?

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

I have the same plan, but I already know my driving is BAD so that is where I'm starting.

My goal is to consistently shoot in the 90's and get my handicap down to 23 so from my current HC 30.9.

I need to focus on put in dedicated practice.

I'd like to get back to a single digit.

...technically, I'm still a single digit, but I haven't been able to score under 85 in my past four rounds, and my four lowest scores from summer are coming up, so I expect to be a 12 by the end of January...

(To be honest, I would actually be happy with 50% fairways hit and better ball striking with my 6i and lower.)

Good luck on your 2015 journey. By now you most likely know what the area(s) of your game are that  you can improve to find those 5 shots. Also 5 shots is very obtainable in the time frame you have set. Don't be surprised if save more than you goal.

I am kind of in the same boat, but I know I can make improvements in my putting to get rid of some shots. It's just tough for me to find a few weeks of quality practice time on real grass.
