What do you do with a lemon slice?

When I order an ice tea with lemon, I usually squeeze the lemon and drop the lemon slice into the drink. But it has me wondering: do they wash the lemon or is it not hygienic to drop the lemon slice into the drink? You know, pesticides, dirty hands etc.

If I get a Coke or something I usually squeeze the juice in and then put the lemon in the class and muddle the pulp a bit with the straw. But I just googled "lemon in drink" and it seems like that's not a very good idea.

Ugh! Just read some of those articles. Disgusting! Now I am not sure if I should even ask for lemon with my ice tea.

So, at first I thought I was looking at the swing help section, and thought that was an adjective I hadn't heard before. I've always put the lemon or orange into the iced tea (or most soft drinks). Now it's going to be on my mind. Except... I suspect there's enough health code stuff that the lemon had to have been washed before being cut up, so pesticides don't worry me. Dirty hands, I dunno.

You seem to have an awful lot of faith in the effectiveness of the health code and your fellow human to do what's right over what's easy, so I won't burst your bubble ;-)

You think lemon slices are bad. I remember a test was done on the nozzles of the soda dispensers and they came out as one of the dirtiest things at restaurant. Test your own home sometime. Everything has bacteria on it. They say that the remote control to the TV has some of the highest concentration of bacteria in the whole house, more so than a toilet.

I am not going to worry about it. I can tell you the number of times I have gotten sick off of food from a restaurant, once in my life. I never gotten sick off of lemons in my drinking water.

IMO more people get sick worrying about things like this than ever actually get sick FROM these thing.  If people were actually getting sick from all of the things that get "discovered" we would all be sick all the time.  My unscientific sense is that the induced stress from all the "we're all gonna die" pronouncements is more harmful than the actual risk of the "we're all gonna die" factors.  But hey, professors get grants to come up with this stuff, so it will continue.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I was stuck with a sick wife deep in Mexico once. It pays to be careful and keep sulpher pills around.
