Does anyone carry two drivers? One for draws and one for fades? Everyone has multiple wedges. Driving is such a critical part of scoring, why not carry 2 of them. I have a Ping K15 that always draws (or hooks). It has a closed face. I've tried to hit fades with it, but it is hard. It takes extreme concentration for me to pull it off. After a couple of beers.... Oh well. However, I have another driver that is easy for me to fade. It has a square face and a weaker shaft. There are a couple of holes that I play that really need a fade off the tee (or at least not a draw).

Before my accident, I could hit fades, and draws with the same driver. Now I can hit slices, and hooks with that same driver......

I do have a 2 wood that that I can hit fades with.

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Phil Mickelson has used two drivers on a number of occasions. He even had one with a longer shaft to get extra distance on risk reward holes.

Doesn't make a lot of sense because you should be sticking with your stock shot.

A Quick Word on Shaping the Ball

95% of the shots a pro plays (Tiger Woods may be one of a group of very small exceptions, and even he isn't as different as many think) are their stock shot. They don't curve much, but if a player is a drawer of the golf ball, 95% of their shots draw. It's the most reliable, dependable way to play - with a pattern.

Kenny Perry (a pronounced drawer) was playing at Doral a few years ago and someone asked him what he does with a pin on the right side of the green. He said he aimed at the flag and if his ball didn't draw, he got lucky, but otherwise he was content to have a 25-footer for birdie.

Then the person asked him what he did when the pin was on the left side of the green. "I make birdie" he said. :)

You'll get better, faster if you develop a pattern. Shaping the ball is over-rated - not even the pros do it all that often. Shaping the ball can get you out of trouble. It can be a good shot when the ball needs to be worked around an obstacle (reaching a par five in two, the tee shot on a dogleg, etc.). But if you've got a look at the flag, take the Kenny Perry approach: aim for your shot coneand play your pattern.

You seem to be under the impression that a "closed" face (left aiming) makes the ball draw. You've been on the site long enough to know you don't need to "close" the face to make the ball draw.

Also the K15 has a lot of weight in the heel, so gear effect plays a role in helping the ball draw/fade less.

I do play my stock shot on my approaches, but there are a few holes I play where a draw is a problem. The 9th hole at Dunedin CC comes to mind. It's a tree lined par four. Fairly tight. A draw will flirt with the trees on the left. Long straight will run through the fairway into the trees. Hitting a fairway wood or hybrid leaves a long shot to the green. But you can hit a fade as long as you like leaving a short iron. [/quote] I understand the ball flight laws, but a closed face will tend to make the ball go left. More of a pull draw than a push draw. Maybe I need to put a little weight in the toe of the K15. I'd like to hit it a little straighter. My problem might just be that I rest the driver on the ground before swinging which closes the face. If I hover the driver (not my habit), maybe I can keep it from closing.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
