So I've searched on here a bunch and haven't come accross any good threads on Golf Simulators (with pics etc.). I've decided I'm going to make this my blog thread. Any new changes or upgrades etc. I do I will post here. So...I just bought a new house in October of this year. I love this place, but the ceilings are not high enough to swing a club in. That said, the previous owner put a gigantic monstrousity of a Pergola in my back yard! It has clearance of about 8 1/2 feet to the lowest ceiling point. It's 20 feet long and 91/2 feet wide. My plan is to tarp it up and create a great room! I'm in the process of looking for good quality tarps that will help keep it warm in the winter and still look good. If anyone has done this please chime in! I'm currently at work, but I'll have pictures when I get home......

Here are two pictures of the pergola in question.  As I said....It's a monstrosity, but it could make a huge room.

This "under shot" gives an idea as to how big a room this could make.

Side view.....

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

I would try to use canvas instead of plasticy tarp material. Canvas will hold heat better, and will be more durable. Probably not to cheap though.

So....I've been spending a lot of time searching trying to find out what would be the best looking, solid, cheap option for creating a temporary enclosure without drilling into or otherwise hurting the pergola.  I've found a nice alternative to a tarp called Tuftex.  It's corrugated plastic that's used in roofing.

It easy to work with and is substantial enough to offer shelter.

I think I am going to drill specific holes in the panels and then ring the holes with brass and fasten them using bungee tarp tie downs.

I can use these bungies for the entire project!

I also want to make two doors one on side of the long portions of the pergola.  I feel like making sliding doors would be the best thing.  After searching on google for a while I found aluminum single door slide kits from Sears.  These are only $20 per kit so they are definitely in my price range!

So....this is what I am looking at.....At $20 per 2foot wide section of tuftex It's going to cost a pretty penny, but I think in the end it will look cool and keep me warm to play golf!

I wish I had some advice for you.  I had a sunroom (really a golf simulator room) addition built on to my house last spring/early summer. I live in NE Ohio and it's awesome to be able to play golf whenever I want.  I mean really awesome.  I play roughly 5 times a week and love it.  It was not a do it yourself project for me (the addition) but we did do the golf simulator part ourselves after the room was done.  It was not cheap & I'm going to owe some $$$ for a long time.  But you only live once!!

Not sure what you plan on using for the actual sim part - I use a GC2 which is easily the best option for accuracy/realism.  Again, it's not cheap.  Main drawback is if you have lefties and righties playing at the same time it really isn't feasible.  Myself and any friends/family that play on mine are all righties. The software/courses available with the GC2 are unreal.  I even play in an online league with others from around the country & Canada.  Life is good.

Any questions about the sim part itself & I would be happy to try an answer.  Truth is... my wife is most of the brains here. ;-)

Wow, that sounds like a really sweet set-up that most of the guys here would love to (kill to) have.  Thanks for mentioning it in your first post so we can all start hating you right away. ;-)

Welcome to the site.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Thanks for the hate! (love).  I've actually been reading this site for years.... posted a very, very small number of times under a different username.  I don't remember the username exactly and the email address attached to it I no longer use... so I just started a new name.  I've even had two or three lessons from Erik.

And yes, the set up is great.  I'm very lucky to have a wife like the one I have.... she actually insisted I do it - I didn't want to spend the $$$$ but she convinced me.  I'm a fortunate man.  The golf room is a blast.

If it is not asking too much we would all love to see some pictures. No pressure ⛳️⛳️

Wow!  Very nice room!  I totally wish the Pergola offered more width, but I will have to make do.  The width I gave originally was from the inside of the legs, but since I will be putting the sheeting on the outside it will buy me about a foot an a half extra in width.  I'll still have to watch the inside of the support beams though.  I wish this weather was better so I could start work on it, but it has been frigid lately!

BTW!  I know you use a GC2, but I can't fathom dropping $8,000 on a simulator.  I'm inbetween at the moment.  I hear a lot of good things about the Protee system so I've been looking at that.  I've also really been looking at the Trugolf system because I was able to hit off of one at our local driving range.  It is very accurate from what I could tell....
