287 yard drive, perfectly straight and on level ground. No idea how it happened! 20 yards further than my next longest which was downhill!!!! Normal was 230/240.

The time I hit a fade with the driver. Probably this near hole in one actually. I made a par. ;-)

Mine was also a driver that went 255 on level ground (normally I'm between 200 and 220).  Completely surprised with the distance and the beautiful high and straight flight.  "Where did that come from", was my comment to my playing partner.

344 Yard par 4, fairway runs out about 275. I piped a PERFECT (perfect flight, perfect length) 3 wood, had 85 to the flag. Flipped a 58 degree to 7 ft, rolled the left to right putt in for birdie. I swear I felt like a touring pro, haven't been able to repeat those shots again. I went ahead and double bogeyed the next hole for good measure.

I decided to go for it with a forced approach carry of 190 yards, and was rewarded with a 6 foot birdie.

This past weekend, actually. First time with driver back in the bag, and was driving pretty great all day, but on the longest par 4 on the course, I tried to muscle one out too far and just hit a huge banana ball. Missed the fairway by a mile. Actually, I landed on the far side of the next fairway over, so that should tell you how big a slice that was. I let the guys on that hole play out their hole, and I'm gonna just flip a short iron over the trees to get back in our fairway (lots of tall trees between holes). I see that, if I go for where I think the hole is, the trees get lower, and the farther distance would give time for a longer club to get up high enough, but I'd have to swing a big draw over those lower trees and around the higher ones. Since my GPS said I was about 195 to the hole, and my hybrid is 190-200, with a high launch, I go with that and hit just a perfect shot that does everything I asked for, and all I hear is clapping from my original fairway. I figured I'd gotten near the green somewhere and start walking up the fairway and ask for where my ball is. I get pointed to about 10 foot short of the flag. Hot damn. Left my birdie putt 2 inches short, but that's the most unlikely par I've ever dreamed of. The kind of thing that keeps you coming back to play again. Actually wound up breaking 90 for the first time with an 89, so it wound up being huge.

I made my 1st back to back birdies.  The 2nd one was the memorable one.  I was up against the fringe on a par 3 so I didn't want to putt and I didn't want to chip. I was afraid I would stub the putt or hit the chip fat.  So I hit a 4 hybrid and by shear luck it went in.  It was a sweet shot but it was also the 1st time I played with cipher and he took me to his awesome CC which made it even cooler.  Whats funny is Ive only hit that shot one other time with my hybrids and I blasted it off the green.

That was pretty dang cool! The first one was just clinical. You hit your second shot in pretty tight. And then great read and speed, on a tough little down hill slider.

I would say it was more of a "Hole of the Year", rather than a shot.

On August 24th, hole number 12, par 5, at Saxon Golf Club in Sarver, PA...

Shot #1: TaylorMade R11 driver though a narrow shoot off of the tee, left-center of the fairway

Shot #2: TaylorMade C-Steel 18° fairway metal from about 210 yards out, pin high, 20 feet from the pin

Shot #3: Odyssey White Steel 2-Ball putter made putt, slight left-to-right break

This was my 13th lifetime eagle, but it had been 15 years since I had been on a par 5 in two shots and made a putt (1999 at Rose Ridge in West Deer, PA).

Thanks! Yeah, totally. It's not even the extra distance I'm getting on the good shots, it's the fact that my bad drives still find enough of the big driver face to get over 200 and keep me in the hole, whereas an occasional bad 3 wood would be a disastrous dribbler because of the shallow face and not even give me a chance. It's a fun change, too.

Of 2014? Last round of the season. Hole 8. Our Tombstone Tournament. Windy and raining. I usually hit a hybrid on this hole, but I'd been hitting the ball further today for some reason. The hole was 150 with a 20 ft elevated green into the wind. I took out my 7 iron and and stuck it about 5 feet from the hole. I played a draw.

Memorable shot, then two putted. I was using a brand new putter that came that morning and was still getting used to it. Putted better on the back 9.

I pulled off a deliberate slice from behind a tree (poor tee shot) that landed on the green, and I made the putt for a bird. I am a big fan of also practicing "bad" shots, and it paid off this time.

BTW, Happy New Year's everyone out there on TST.

Short par 5, dogleg right. Pushed my drive into the trees on the right just past the turn, leaving me with about 185 yards to the pin....but forced to start the ball through about a 4 foot gap in the trees and fade it about 10 yards. I hit my persimmon 5 wood (yeah....I'm a short hitter)....hit it dead solid perfect. Made the 10 foot left-to-right breaker for my only eagle of the year. Since that was the 1st hole, it let me begin the round under par....at least for a little while :)

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
